One reason people live in big cities is their public transport infra....
If you are living in small cities, then I guess buying an pre-owned cheap toyota or honda is not a bad idea.
Any okayish 10 year old Honda/Toyota are over 10k so if you don’t have that money available, it’s better to buy new because the rates they are offering in older car dealers are ridiculous.

Are you using the profession with the toughest licensing process to support your argument? When you say that 500K immigrants are needed to replace those doctors/nurses, are you taking in consideration how many of them WILL ACTUALLY become doctors and nurses in Canada? I don't think that many will. For every other profession, I can partially agree; the partially is due to the fact that Canadian market just doesn't pay enough. For many, Canada is a temporary stop before they head down the south for some major salary hike.

Regardless, as I have mentioned before, 500K is not sustainable rate without scaling up everything else. I can see that Canadian government is not scaling up or reworking other parts of the process; just keep pumping those numbers up. That won't end well. Before inviting 500K people: 1) Need enough medical professionals (need to rework the licensing); 2) Need to have affordable housing (ban private equality and massive foreign investments).
Hire them from uk. Apparently they pay almost min wage over there

About the birth rates. I don't really see how they will change in the future. Personally, I don't see myself having more than 2 kids there no matter what and most probably end up having just one. Talking as an immigrant here. I wouldn't think a lot of immigrants, especially the economic category, will just land in Canada and start mass reproducing. A declining birth rate is not a new phenemon in the developped countries already. Nothing surprising there.
The trouble is many people here are NOT even having two kids or delaying children to early to mid 40s. Immigrants typically either come with their kids or have kids. Canada's fertility rate is a mess at 1.40 kids per female. Your two kids will be over and above that number. So will be for many other folks.

We all know that 500k people will not be sustainable in any freaking way possible, but hey immigration will push the economy right ?
Canada's long term plan is to grow to 100 million by 2100. For that it will need a 1.2% annual growth rate. That can only happen with 400K+ immigrants a year if Canada only adds 60K or so per year by itself. Given that majority of population is old, it will see increase in deaths going forward. Baby boom of 40s-50s will be depression of heads by 2030-40. So 500K presently is NOT really a unrealistic number.

What is more interesting is seeing @GandiBaat leaning conservative one step at a time. The quote of Pierre Poilivre "Mom not being able to afford baby milk and mixing it with water" seems you are following him closely. The guy is hitting Justin and liberals very hard.
Trust me, I did not know this example from any political debate. I have decided to stay out of popularity based politics of this country for the time being. I still follow policies but I stay out of "politics".

It’s an unrealistic number for the current Canada.

If you want 100M by 2100, you need this kind of number. More so if you are seeing accelarated deaths and suppressed birth rates.

Canada has that goal.

More people is good for existing homeowners, business owners and the elite. For those that aren't... well tough luck... you'll be competing with the immigrants fore the 600 sq ft 1 bedroom

Oh boy. Canadians are not happy.
On immigration, majority of Canadians are supportive of these levels.

Here is a survey from 2022 : https://www.environicsinstitute.org/docs/default-source/project-documents/focus-canada---fall-2022---immigration-refugees/focus-canada-fall-2022---canadian-public-opinion-about-immigration-refugees---final-report.pdf?sfvrsn=b31e22c9_2

69% disagree that level is too high.

Environics is a Toronto based research firm established in 1970 collecting this survey since 1976. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environics

Well, majority of canadians are homeowners. So....
Those who are arriving here later (I am one of them) have to work a solution out of this for asset prices. Either wait for a strong recession or move to towns with lower prices ... those exists.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. The survey doesn’t say anything about demographics, province of responders.

Majority of redditors are young people so it makes sense that they're the most displeased as they are the worst to suffer from immigration lol The rest, old homeowners. are set for a bountiful retirement

Canada has that goal.
Without scaling up the existing infrastructure (both human and physical ones like affordable housing), this goal is unsustainable in the long run. Should have prepared the policies before inviting this number of immigrants. Instead of trying to fix a bug in production.
