Dear All,

Please I need urgent direction as I have got an interview coming up next month. Urgent advice needed.

I applied under NOC 4152 in Nov, 2011. I just received an email from the London office for an interview with a Visa Officer next month, the letter said an interview is required for my application.

Please has anyone being in this position before as I need to know what to expect?

The letter listed some documents I should come with, but I currently do no have a few of them because it is difficult to get them from the authorities, e.g.

(a) Original of Passports & Residence Permit [this is currently with UK Immigration becos I applied for my extension and do not know when it will be granted or returned

(b) Degree/Diploma mark sheet? [I do not know what a mark sheet means, and doubt if my university and that of my wife will provide us with this]

(c) Wife's original educational certificates [she applied but is yet to get response from the school in Nigeria as Universities are on strike].

I need urgent advice!!!!!!, and would appreciate any suggestion, no matter how small.

Alfan

A list of documents that you should bring to your interview is on page 2 of this letter. Failure to bring these documents with you could result in refusal as the officer will assess your application on the basis of the information available.

The date of interview has been set to allow you sufficient time to prepare the necessary documentation and to obtain an entry visa (if applicable). Your interview has been scheduled for:

When you come to the High Commission for the interview, please ensure that you arrive at least half an hour in advance of the scheduled time, to allow time to go through security procedures. While we will try to start your interview at the scheduled time, you should be aware that your interview may be delayed if previous interviews overrun.

Use of interpreters
If you are unable to speak English or French well enough to complete the interview unassisted, you must bring an interpreter, at your own expense. The interpreter will be required to provide evidence of appropriate certification or accreditation. The interpreter cannot be a relative of the applicant, or an employee of the applicant or of their immigration representative. This office does not provide interpreters and we cannot recommend a specific translation service.

Hello Alfan,

Being called for interview is nothing new so don't panic. Please refer to the following thread for guidance on interview. The first page gives a range of possible questions that can be asked.

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/prepare-an-interview-t3109.0.html

I haven't been through such situation but in my humble opinion you should notify the UK Immigration office as well as the Canadian Visa Office about the situation as soon as possible.

Mark sheet (or transcript) is a record of all courses you took for you degree along with marks obtained in each. This is an essential document provided by all educational institute.

Try to call your wife's university or ask some relative to visit there if possible.

Note that they have said in the letter than any missing documents among those asked can result in rejection. So please give in all your best efforts. I wish you the very best of luck and my best wish are with you.

Best Regards

Many thanks ESZB for your kind suggestions.

I will do as you have suggested which is informing Canadian High Commission about the position of my passport and residence permit; unfortunately I cannot request for my passport/residence permit from the UK authorities because doing that is withdrawing my application for extension and that is automatic refusal.

My worry now is:

(a) sometimes, UK application can last many months, so one cannot say when the passport will be available; and assuming the Canada interview is postponed and they request another date in one or less than 1 month, I am still not sure of the passport availability becos all depends on the VO in UK Immigration.

(b) Another greatest worry is my wife's educational certificates: we have applied for long and nothing is forthcoming. There is no guarantee that we may get this because the Nigerian university authorities have being on and off strike for over 2 years now. Currently they are on strike, but we will make attempt to see if anything can be done, but there is no assurance on that as the system is very very disorganized.

What I want to do is to attend the interview with all the documents that I am able to secure; and give them good reasons why the others cannot be obtained. Possibly we can ask for more time.

I am feeling it is better to attend the interview and show what you have got and explain why you are unable to get the rest. Most times, when you you can interview appointment at this stage, you may be looking at 9-10 months before another opportunity.

I am really worried, and hope God's grace will intervene.

Well in that case you may go ahead with the interview but good reasons will need to be be backed by proof. So it is highly recommended that you take documentary evidence to back the reasons you mention for not being able to provide some of the documents requested.

I am sure you will have some document from the UK authorities which can prove that your passport and residence permit is in their possession. Do take them along.

For your wife's educational documents please try to follow up to the process more frequently. If there are any fees pending... pay them... even of you have to pay more. However if that doesn't work then at least try to get some declaration from university officer that they are on strike and the requested documents cannot be provided.

The rest is on the visa officer's discretion how he sees your situation. I sincerely hope that it all turns out well for you.

ESZB,

I cannot thank you enough for your incisive views.

(a) I have documents as proof that our passports are with the UK immigration {there is even a possibility that our passport/residence permit may be out before Canada interview, it is just that some times it is not certain}.

(b) There is no teacher we can contact on behalf of my wife becos they are on strike, however, I will go with a newspaper publication and link regarding the strike in the Nigerian Universities. Meanwhile, we have asked my wife's sister to go to the secondary school and university to see if by chance we can make positive input.

Yes, it all depends on the discretion of the visa officer. I still somehow believe it may be better to attend and explain situations of what I could get and what I could not get than postponing the interview.

Once more thank you; I will read the link you gave me and will keep you most surely posted on the development.

Kind regards,

Alfan

Hello ESZB,

How is application getting on? I trust well.

Anyway........there has being some positive outcome after we last communicated...........both on the proposed interview and the documents that was requested from me....I mean the educational credentials which i was not having before now.

Respond to this and I will share that with you, privately.

I don't wanna put up such information for every tom, dick and harry's view. They don't worth it.

Once more, thanks for your views and opinions we shared.

Waiting for your response.

So of those who have had their interviews, how did it go?

I am a british national who has applied via the FSW category so could also be called up for an interview. Would be nice to know what people have experienced and that they have been successful.

Are these interviews usually due to the visa officer's doubting anything in the application or due to inconsistency in the evidence provided?
