My work experience is as follows: Company A - NOC 0911 (Jan 2014 to March 2016)
Then 4 months Gap
Company B( Self Employed outside Canada) - NOC 0911 (August 2016 - Present)
What number of years can I claim under FSW eligibility and CRS?

4.5 years

Maximum points for work experience.
Gap doesnot matter if you have atleast an year experience in you primary NOC.

For eligibilty u get points as per years but for crs calculation u get maximum points for 3 years or more.

Hi guys, I have 2 concerns about this issue:

1. Do they check the work experience for the period of 3 years or 10 years back to time you submit the application?

2. Let's have a look at this case:
Jan 2019 - current (5 months): self employed
Oct 2018 - Jan 2019 (4 months): project manager
Apr 2017 - Oct 2018 (1 year 6 months): portfolio manager
Oct 2015 - Apr 2017 (1year 6 months): financial analyst

So will I chose 1 year of experience for CRS calculation or only 1 year ( my longest one).

Thank you

For each applicable NOC u must have atleast 1 year of experience.

Means that the last two will fetch u max points for work ex.

if you had done other jobs ,then add those in personal history section post -ITA as you wont be claiming points for them.
There is no harm in unveiling it.

If this project manager job falls in the portfolio manager manager Noc ,you can claim that work ex too.

Just make sure you have the reference letter as per IRCC Guidelines.

Reason why asked you to add that 4 months work ex is that if you are short of 2 or 3 days ,these 4 months can help u in meeting the 3 yr work ex criteria. For example ,your portfolio manager lasted for 1 year 5 months 20 days then those four months can add up to complete 3 years.

Hope Its clear .

Hi James,

So when it comes to CRS calculation i will choose 'more than 3 years experience' and get 50 points despite they are from different NOCs?

Did you work exactly for 1 year and 6 months ?
I believe it was not short of 2 or 3 days .

1. You count work ex on day basic? My answer would be approximate 1 year and 6 months. I have to check on the paper.

But can you tell me why you count the day?

2. And does CIC look for totally work ex for 3 years or 10 years? Please correct me if i understand wrong as following:

- 3 years from the moment submit, assume that i submit now, i will have totally 2 years 7 months and 1year 6 months for the NOC of portfolio manager:
Jan 2019 - current (5 months): self employed
Oct 2018 - Jan 2019 (4 months): project manager
Apr 2017 - Oct 2018 (1 year 6 months): portfolio manager
Oct 2015 - Apr 2017 (9 months): financial analyst

- 10 years from the moment submit, assume that i submit now, i will have totally at least 3 years 4 months and 1year 6 months for the NOC of either portfolio manager or financial analyst:
Jan 2019 - current (5 months): self employed
Oct 2018 - Jan 2019 (4 months): project manager
Apr 2017 - Oct 2018 (1 year 6 months): portfolio manager
Oct 2015 - Apr 2017 (1 year 6 months): financial analyst.
Before Oct 2015: extra ex if i can have them verified.

3. Can you pleae share the information aboutthe reference letter as per IRCC Guidelines.

Thank you a lot.

1 It should be exactly 3 years ,not a single day missing.

2 If you are claiming for 3 years ,they will check documents related to those only .
Not for entire decade. It is normally suggested to add the remaining in the personal history.( reference letters and other documents are only required for the 3 years you are claiming )
