1) apply for SIN card so you can start working whenever you want. There is no additional benefit for having it right now. Eventually for your pension and stuff yes it's beneficial

2) http://passport.gc.ca/info/service.aspx?lang=eng&region=NonCA

1) What is the value of applying for a SIN card immediately after landing in Canada. I plan to move to Canada in the next 8 months.
2) Does anyone know what is the processing time for making a travel document?

 Waiting is frustrating
I know all the early applicants got MR within 45-60 days but all the latter applicants are having to wait much longer for the MR ..

I noticed that too. Is there a way to maybe find out the 'bring forward date' on our applications ? so we atleast have some idea.

Guys I just got my passport back with CoPR!!! :D :D :D

Passport was received at Ottawa office on April 23 and came back today, took exactly 13 days, for others who want to know the approximate waiting time.

By the way, I will be doing my landing this weekend, I will be crossing Peace Arch, but I will go into the U.S. and then come back into a Canada a few hours later, is there a problem with that or is it better just to flagpole???

Thanks!!
Congrats! I called CIC and was told that here in Vancouver, the next appt date will be in a month. So like you, I plan on landing this weekend :)

MaryJane,
I have never been in Canada :)
I am in US for over 10 years :)

Where are you in Canada and how long you have been already?
Hi Grace! :) im in Vancouver, BC. Been here since March 2014 :)

When I do my landing at the border I think I would cross to the US side and a guard or official will give me a refusal letter.
Would you have any idea if I need a US visa? I dont think I need one bec I dont have an intention to enter the US but Im just making sure :)

MaryJane, what is that refusal US letter and why do you need this??

I have no idea if you need US visa... you don't want to go to US, so I assume you don't need it

I just read that to land at the border at Peace Arch, I read that i will notify canada officials that Im there to do my landing. Then they'll direct me to cross the border by walking to the US side. A US guard will then give me a refusal letter and redirect me to canada officials then I can do my landing. Now thats just what I read in one of the forums here so please correct me if Im wrong.

I read somewhere that you don't even need to go to the US side to get a refusal. Just tell the guys at the Border that you are there for landing and they will help you to cross the border and get the landing done..no need to get the refusal letter from US Customs.
