There is no limit on how much cash you can carry into Canada. However if you carry $10,000 or more, you must fill out a form declaring it.

Agree, theres no limit on how much cash can be brought in Canada, but there are restrictions to get money out from India. We are discussing that point.

However there might be relaxations considering this is immigration and not leisure travel. Will need to get this checked.

Got PPR from Los Angeles

I'm grateful to you all for your help in getting me the PR visa. I wanted to point out how long it takes to get the visa stamped in the US i.e. add a month after getting PPR. (for Indians who cannot send their passport to Canada.)

  • PPR from CPC-O: Jan 8 (I Immediately responded to print visa in the US)
  • PPR from Los Angeles: Jan 30
  • Passport Received by LA: Feb 3
  • Passport Sent/Mailed from LA: Feb 12
  • Passport Received: Feb 14

How long is the visa valid?

Until I got my visa, I had always wondered how long would it be valid for. It seems to be that a few days longer than 1 year from the date you completed the Medical. (Ensure that your passport is valid for at least a year and a half after the date of your Medical.)

  • Medical Completed: Nov 5, 2014
  • eMedical Entry/File Completed: Nov 13, 2014
  • Medical Updated in ECAS: Nov 24, 2014
  • Visa Valid up to: Nov 20, 2015

Dear Friends,

Those who are planning to land in Canada must watch video in youtube Border Security: Canada's Frontline series ,
This might help you, how to face CBSA (Canadian Border Security Authority) immigration checks.

Yes, it is very interesting!
watched the whole series last week, but i guess that applies alot after landing in canada and various visits outside the country, but yes you will know what to carry and what not to.

I love their job, wish my background was similar to getting a job as Border security agent :)

Indian tricks do not work with the CIO buddy :P

I am hoping the Warsaw visa office has started to work quicker to keep up with the pressure from its higher authorities (I atleast hope).

If they are consistent with the following steps I wouldnt mind appreciating their efforts with a few BENJAMINs (just joking). ;D

:D :P Well said..

Are you on whatsapp group for Warsaw...if yes, with what name ?

This is adding to so much of confusion. Today during a discussion, Palakpatel and Simarwali seems to have confirmed that you dont need to carry full POF. But this post seems to suggest otherwise.
or
Goku, are you suggesting that we can carry as much liquid as we want but we need to carry the proofs of the rest and that proof may be still invested somewhere in parent country like fixed deposits etc.

How much money you can carry while leaving India??

-> See question 10 in below link (FAQ on RBI's website). Here I quote "A person going abroad on emigration can draw foreign exchange from AD Category I bank and AD Category II up to the amount prescribed by the country of emigration or USD 100,000. He can draw foreign exchange up to USD 100,000 on self- declaration basis from an Authorised Dealer in India This amount is only to meet the incidental expenses in the country of emigration. No amount of foreign exchange can be remitted outside India to become eligible or for earning points or credits for immigration. All such remittances require prior permission of the Reserve Bank. If requirement exceeds USD 100,000, the person requires to obtain the prior approval from the Reserve Bank."

Link: http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/FAQView.aspx?Id=53

Do you need POF at the time of landing ??

-> Yes for sure. As soon as officer see "SW1" or "SW2" on COPR he can ask you to provide proof of fund. Not everyone is asked to provide POF at port of entry. POF can be anything under your or your spouse name. It necessarily doesn't have to be what you showed while submitting your application.

These funds could be in the form of:
>cash
>documents that show property or capital payable to you (such as stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills, etc.) or
>documents that guarantee payment of a set amount of money, which are payable to you (such as bankers' drafts, cheques, travellers' cheques or money orders).

What if you don't have POF at the time of landing ??

-> If you are asked to provide POF at the time of landing and if you don't have if he can sent you to secondary. You can be asked to prove that you have enough funds at back home to support your stay in Canada for initial period i.e. you can be asked to access your bank account to prove that you have enough funds. Now if you cant prove it then you might get in trouble.

How much money you can carry at the time of Landing ?

->You can carry as much money as you want at the time of landing. You can carry thousands, hundreds, millions if you want but should be declared if above $10000. But always carry a proof of source of money.

What if you don't declare money and you are caught in Secondary examination ?

->Sniffer dogs are trained to detect money, drug, organic foods or meat products that are coming into country. Now if you didn't declare money (>$ 10000) then your money will be seized and based on seizure level you will have to pay penalty to get it back. They might even ask you for the source of money if they think is from illicit source. That's why always carry source of money. They are not interest in your money that you are carrying, instead they are interested in all the money that are brought back into the country just to keep track of it. They wont catch you at immigration booth, instead they will be watching you at luggage center, and from there they will take you secondary examination if they suspect something.

Do we have to declare all the money or just CAD $ we have on declaration card ?

-> All money you are carrying should not be more than $10000, if it is then you have to declare it.
For example: $2200 USD = $2000 CAD ( @ 1.1), RS 50000 = $1000 CAD ( @ 50), and $8000 CAD. So you on declaration card you have to declare $ 11000 CAD, not $ 8000.

P.S. They take declaration card very seriously, if you didn't declare food or money they can give you hard time.

Congrats and Thanks a lot for sharing the Visa validity. I always wondered about it too.+1.
