Since you guys are so knowledgeable about notes, and I haven't ever ordered notes- could I ask you guys- which visa office usually indicates interview recommended/required - is it the cic officer here in canada before it goes to the pa's country's visa office or the one in pa's country's visa office?

I was curious about this too. According to a bulletin i read: the cic officer in missisauga determines the sponsors eligibility, and establishes the eligibility criteria for the principal applicant. My undersstanding is that there is at least a preliminary assessment of the relationship by mississauga but i may be wrong.

My understanding is that in Mississauga they will first create a file for the PA's Assessment Eligibility criteria (as seen in the notes). That officer supposedly does a quick check on the PA's eligibility against the supporting documents when he first creates the e-file.

In our case, it appears that it was the officer at the VO. In our first set of notes, the status under the eligibility assessment section said not started. In the second set of notes, they looked at the file again and it was changed to review required. We have just ordered our fourth set of notes and we will see if the status has been changed to interview required/recommended.

I am leaning towards not attending. My partner was saying to me this morning, he's so not nervous or afraid because he said our relationship is genuine and we have been together a long time. His mentality is like "bring it on"! LOL Maybe at the time, he'll get nervous, but I don't think it can be any worse than going through the IELTS exams, which he has taken twice. We will go over possible questions (like the ones on the list in this forum and I think ones that we think they might ask us as we know our red flags). He might think one thing and then I think something else or a missed detail or dates & names might trip him up too ... so better that we rehearse. I realize that they might call me if I don't attend. I'm sure they will ask me only a few questions whereas they will be asking him way more.
My husband was never nervous at all and also didnt want me to attend
But the amount of new documents i had, it was not that more expensive to just fly there, and i really wanted to be by his side when they approved him. I too wasn’t supposed to go.

Glad i did :)
It was awesome

I wanted to go also for moral support and be there in case they approve us, which I am sure would be a great feeling. I'll see when he actually gets called for the interview. Maybe if it's later rather than sooner, I'll end up going. It takes me 13 -14 hours of flying time to get there, not including layover time, a good chunk of the day. So usually I try to stay longer.

I'll also see what the notes say and what extra proof of evidence they might want to see.

I wish I could go to brazil and be with my husband for the interview but I just can't afford to travel not to mention I'm afraid of flying alone. I do plan on being available in case the officer wants to call me.

Why is the flight so long, is it because you are on the west coast?
Hope u get approved without the interview!

Best case scenario is no interview of course. However, I can't really put all my money on that.
I live in Calgary, so it's about a 4 hour flight to Toronto then 9-10 hours down to Santiago ( or if I go through the US, same thing .... 4 hours down to Houston or Dallas and then still about 9 hours to Santiago because it's not as far east). Any way you look at it, a long time in transit ....

I understand. They will call you if they want to ask you questions too. I will prepare for that, unless I do end up going, but it's not looking like it will happen at this point in time.

Yeah. They don't seem to care much about the sponsor. They want to know if the applicant is sincere and has genuine motives for coming to Canada

You are lucky! If he were that close, I would be visiting him more often! I am so wiped after I get to Chile. It's always an overnight flight and I usually have to take a nap when I get there before I can function!

I guess that makes sense. However, I think they might want to ask the sponsor questions to compare answers if they still have doubts about how the applicant answered their questions.

Of course, it's good to be prepared for anything
