The airlines won’t even allow you board the plane, if you don’t have the 3-day mandatory hotel stopover.
Yup its lenient now especially ones coming through the US but in the upcoming weeks you may not be allowed to board for sure.

Must have the 3-day mandatory hotel stopover booked through the government line.

"Transport Canada told CTVNews.ca Tuesday that Dawson and the other Canadians on her flight should not have been denied boarding, noting that “air carriers are not required to verify that a traveller has a hotel reservations before boarding a flight to Canada, nor are they required to deny that traveller boarding in the event that person has been unable to book.”

Depends, airlines like Air Canada are very strict on their policies since they closely work with the government. Entering Canada is a gamble now and is full of uncertainties.

It doesn't depend on the airline. If airlines are refusing boarding, they are acting on misunderstood information. But on Canadian soil, nobody is going to be refused entry because of a hotel reservation. Maybe issued a fine if they're really unreasonable but that's it. That said, obviously people should just avoid the hassle and book in advance.

It does not depend on the airline. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can't be barred from entering the country. There has obviously been some misunderstandings between the Canadian government and some airlines.

Woops. I thought your post was deleted so I made mostly the same remarks again. My mistake.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are dwelling in lock downs and are held against their will to travel as instructed by the government. The 20,000 to 25,000 calls received in the past few days were mostly from TRV holders (majority). Hope everything works out though but we can't deny what's happening right now which is unreasonable.

Not everyone owns a Canadian passport to convince the airline.

"For now, those quarantining have been staying in the isolation sites free of charge, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that will soon change, and no official date has been set for when travellers will be picking up the bill."

Suggest people to have their money ready for quarantine if they did not manage to book the hotel through the line.
It's unclear whether it will be free or will cost money but either way in the upcoming weeks the government clearly plans to make everyone pay.

So far only @blackrabbitqueen is the only source who travelled from the US seems to have a different story and it's still vital that you book a hotel through the line. What applies to one may not apply to another.
This is incorrect information you are sharing. The hotels they speak of here are different than what came into place this week. Please take this down its just gonna confuse everyone.

I don't mean to be rude but a lot of what that Ironclad guy posts and his replies is either incorrect or misses the point of the original post completely. It's very noticeable following this thread.

Elaborate. What's incorrect ?
This news article is from Feb 10th, so it's not about the hotels for the three day quarantine. By posting this some people may think you're talking about the hotels for the three day quarantine.
