In the process of Outland Spousal

My partner lived in the Dominican Republic for work in 2012. They want a police certificate withing 30 days.

HE LIVES IN SPAIN AND YOU HAVE TO GO TO DOMINICAN FOR A POLICE CERTIFICATE!!

What can we do?? I am trying to call CIC and I can't get through to anyone! How can I talk to a human! Help!!

He can't get it from the nearest consulate of the Dominican Republic?

Assuming he does in fact need to go to the Dominican Republic to get it...

write back your VO immediately explaining the situation, that he cannot get it outside of the Dominican Republic (include proof. Is there a website where this is explained? Screenshot it. Or better yet, go to the consulate of the Dominican Republic anyway and get a paper from them saying they cannot issue a Police Certificate, that he has to go to the Dominican Republic to get it.) and that he is planning to go to the Dominican Republic. Send them his booked flights if he has booked them already, and give them a timeline - when he will go there, when he will apply, when he will get the paper, when he can get it translated and when he can send it to them. Give them an ETA. They will wait if they know you're working on it.

My VO waited a month after my deadline for my police certificate.

My husband also needed a police certificate from the DR. Does your husband still have any friends or contacts down there? If so...

We had someone we know down there go to the police and pay a few extra $$ (and since it's in pesos, you don't have to give them more than like $20) and they will do it for you anyways. They will need a copy of his passport. It will help if he knows someone that is friends with any police down there.

Just Western U the money for the cost of the police check, it's not too much, a few $$ for the police to do it without him being there, and the cost for his friend/contact to FedEx you the report when completed. Maybe a few extra $$ to get it completed quicker.

This might not sound ethical, but I also lived in the DR for years, and that's just how things work, and what they expect you to do to get things done.

They said he MIGHT be able to get it at the consulate, we cant find out until Monday, even if he can it will take longer than a month... otherwise I do know one person in Dominican so maybe I will just have to do as suggested and pay the police...

In any case, don't forget to inform your VO if you are going to be later than the 30 day deadline. They will wait if you give them a realistic timeline!

generally, if you write to the visa office and show them proof you have gone to the consulate to get it done, they will extend your deadline if it's not possible to get it in the time specified. as mentioned by kayaker, they wil accept it past the deadline, as long as they know it's coming. it's your responsibility to communicate to them that you are doing what you can to obtain the record. NOT communicating with them, and just letting your deadline pass without any notification, can have a negative affect on your process.

What city is the person you know in? If it's on the North Coast I might be able to get you the name of someone higher up in the police force for them to visit.

The person I know in the Dominican is in Punta Cana. Anyone know how i can call and talk to a human at CIC about all this?

i don't think calling CIC will help you. the number available is a general number for a call center, and i doubt they would be able to help you much. you need to be communicating with your visa office directly, and instructions for that should have been in your SA letter or any AOR the applicant received. Generally, the only ways to communicate with visa offices are emailing a case-specific inquiry, faxing, or sending mail. Most of the time it's a one way communication.

if you want additional help to contact your visa office, then you would want to contact the sponsor's member of parliament (MP) who could initiate a request on your behalf.

I did not get an AOR or an SA... this is the first time I have heard anything from them and it was just a document request letter....

Go immediately to this website, drsisterhood.com and contact Lindsay De Feliz. She lives in Dominican Republic with her Dominican husband. They provide services, including obtaining certificates when you're not able to be there to get it. Good luck! drsisterhood.com
