Hi.
I have couple of questions regard bringing goods to canada.

My wife, my little son and I landed in Toronto August 2011and stayed in canada for 1 month then came back to our country. I went back to canada august 2012 and stayed for a month alone then returned back to my country. my wife and my son have not visited canada since landing. during our landing we did not submitted or declared any goods or goods to follow form.
We will travel to canada this May for good and settlement.
1-Can we bring our goods to canada this time as duty and tax free or submitt and goods to follow form. my wife remained more than one year out of canada but I did not stayed out of canada for more than 12 consequent months.
2-Are we entiteled as returning immigrant to bring tax and duty free house holds?
3-In case I am not considered a returing immigrant is my wife entitled to apply for emporting our household.?( I was the main applicant). thank you very much.

Hi,

The usual norm is to 'stamp' the B4 during one's initial entry into Canada, however many have successfully got it stamped during their subsequent entry, while they finally came to settle down. The CBSA is aware of the goof-up a new immigrant might do, things s/he may forget or not be aware of -- thus they always intend to assist un in the best possible way. Which is why, if u bring ur B4 (both - GTF as well as the GAL) this time -- u'd be 99% fine and will get to bring-in ur 'goods' duty free, as a returning immigrant.

My parents are landing next month under family class. They have house, shop and other fixed assets outside Canada. How should they declare it in forms ( Item to carry and item to follow) at time of landing, so in future when they sell these assets and want to transfer the money to Canada not have to pay tax for it.

Would appreciate an expert opinion

Dear Qorax,
Need a clarification regarding Goods to Follow. Please reply.....

1. Can someone else bring those items for us? (Lets say my sister, who is US resident?) If yes, does she have to carry the originally stamped B4 GTF form, or its xerox will suffice?

2. Do we have to bring all those items listed on GTF in one go? or can we bring few of them everytime we visit our home country?

Thanks :)

They don't list assets in the B4 form. The form is for goods only. Instead, they list their house and other assets outside Canada when filing the Canadian tax return.

I took this line from one of the earlier replies.
For general household items such as books or clothing, a group listing and overall value is sufficient (e.g., kitchen utensils – $000)

I need to know:
1) If this grouping be done in the same way for Jewelry & Electronics items (TV, Laptop, Camera etc.) as well or they must be mentioned individually?

2) There is no official place here to get valuation of Jewelry, so I can just take picture and put it's approx. market value?

3) Is it better to come with B4 Form prepared (to save time) or just the list of items and then Officer will put the details on B4 form at the airport?

pls reply

Dear Qorax ,

We are all thankful to you for your immense help online.

I am fresh PR Visa holder to Canada.
Filling up PERSONAL EFFECTS ACCOUNTING DOCUMENT. as per instructions given by you.

Plz let me know following
Do we have to give importers name as our own & address as our friend in Canada?

What IMM5292 no is to be written. Also which accounting document number is to be filled in.

Also I have filled in Classification type as SETTLER, is it okay?

I have only one form , from which link can I download other form?
Plz let me know the link from where I can download B4 forms.

Please Advice.

Kris

I thought I had replied these exact questions elsewhere, didn't I.

1. Yes, they can. And the copy of the stamped B4 suffices.
2. Not necessarily. U can bring them in parts, and few of them may not at all.

1. Grouping of any similar items is fine.
2. Yes, unless they r tremendously high worth.
3. Come prepared... that helps both, u as well as the BSO handling ur case.

1. Any Canadian address shall suffice.
2. Not to be filled by us.
3. That's correct.
4. It's only one form, the B4E, that u'd need.
