I don't think anyone can argue that our military isn't grossly underpaid. I would support their strike.
Same here. And the military striking wouldn't be effecting thousands of immigrants, workers, and students like this strike is. Not to mention all the business people who make money through tourism. This strike just seems selfish to me with no real concern for the pain it is causing the country as a whole.

So it is selfish for them to inconvenience business/workers/students in order to make more money but not selfish of business/workers/students to inconvenience them to make more money?

I think they could find a better way to get pay raises rather than causing damage to the whole country. This is a big scale example of how the actions of one individual impact other people. Their JOB is to help the economy of Canada by processing work permits, visitor visas, immigration applications, etc. Without processing those, the people who PAID them to process the applications don't make any money. The CIC was more than happy to take all the money I paid for my application and I still can't work because of the strike. If I could pay somebody else to process my application and allow me to work, I would. You don't play with people's lives like this and be so callous about it. I'm blaming both sides because both are acting like squabbling children.

I seem to repeat this over and over again but no one has caused this strike to inconvenience you. This strike is not about you or anyone who has an application pending. It is about power. You are just one of many victims.

I wonder if with their current salaries, PAFSO immigration officers can make an ok living in expensive cities like Tokyo? I´m sure that a high diplomat doesn´t have any problems with what they get paid plus their housing benefits but I suspect it is totally different for a unionized employee...

I agree with you. Both sides unwilling to give up any power. Once the strike started, I think it would have been a no-brainer for the government to offer up $4.2mil in order to avoid losing $280mil (and now news sources are saying as much as $1 billion). But by giving in they would give up some power. And neither one cares who gets hurts in the power struggle.

I have to disagree. This strike is about us. PAFSO members are public servants. Their job is to serve Canadians and their families.

And the main purpose of the strike is to cause inconvenience to us. From the mouth of the PAFSO President, Tim Edwards:

“Over the summer, we are going to be targeting mainly visa and immigration processing because this is the peak season for those files, whereas the political and trade diplomatic calendar slows down over the summer.”

You're right about the fact that this is all about power. The PAFSO is holding Canadians and their families hostage in an attempt to extort a higher paycheck for themselves. That's some sense of public service...

Dan_from_Surrey I am sure if your status there wasn't showing as "passport requested", your blood would be boiling too. Army should go on strike? Excuse me but are you a "retard"? Who's gonna defend the country if they are on strike? Oh but let me guess... You don't care!
The choice is simple... If you don't like the perks, leave the job! There are plenty others who would be more than happy to take it. I doubt that any of these foreign service diplomats can survive in the Private sector. Instead of blindly supporting someone do some research. The details about their salary is easily available. Even you could find it!! ;D
Oh and you didn't like my style of writing?? Tough s @ #t! I wasn't writing to impress you. ;)
We are all here in the same boat, all of us have extra stress due to the strike and the entire process. No need to be a prick with your answer, this isn't the YOUTUBE comments page.

But the money you paid was to CIC. You have no direct agreement with the workers to process your app. So if you have a complaint about it complain to CIC and to their owners, the government. It's like saying if I go to McDonalds and try to order a coffee and the cashier refuses, I should complain to the cashier's parents rather than her manager.
