I guess Nigel Wright won't be cutting any cheques for the FSOs.

I am sure they will be staying off the job only for this week.

Reply: CIC website re: Foreign Service - Strike?

It's hard to get a straight answer about the specifics of what is really going on...the CIC website says pretty much nothing. I hope there are answers to these questions, maybe some links to news articles (not that the "news" ever gets anything right, sigh)

As of right now CIC's website says this:

Last update: June 19, 2013

Alert – Strike Action

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas.

Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages.

Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.

Contingency plans are already in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service. Priority will be placed on urgent humanitarian applications.

CIC continues to closely monitor the situation.

A spokesman from Citizenship and Immigration Canada said all visa offices are still open and providing services, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the government is doing its best to minimize disruptions to Canadians.

Hi,

I am worried about this movement by PAFSO. For those who are thinking that this is not going to affect the visa processing times, to tell you, it does. I applied for a visitor visa for my parents to join me on my big day of convocation, it is still under processing and the convocation was on 18 th june ??? ???.
My question is, i am still on study permit, which is going to expire on 31st july 2013. I have already applied for my work permit on 10th june. Well, this trend of the immigration officers are dragging me insane :o.
Is it legal to stay in canada if my work permit does not come by 31st july. As the processing time is just 31 days. any delays are not from my side though ??
looking forward for a satisfied answer for my own relief.
ThanX :)

I'm sorry that your parents missed your big day.

You should ask CIC if your status is implied as you wait for your work visa.

Hello everybody. I just want to give you all a little bit of hope by telling you that we got our work permit this week and it took only 2 weeks to finish the process!! Although we sent our applications to Sydney Australia which is not the one of the visa office in strike action... But there are some people still working in some office and trying to deal with this chaos.
I hope this give you a little hope... ;)
Good luck to all!

That is true I know there are people who are working in those offices. As a matter of fact my Mp sent an email today to my visa office to know why the passport is taking 7 weeks now. I will update tomorrow or when they will reply.

I wish and hope they don't get a single dollar raise. These freakin greedy ppl dont deserve anything. We are suffering so much because of them and they want more money B.S. If they dont like their jobs then they should get the hell out of here and leave it for some one who really wants to do it for that much money and is not as greedy as these guys are.

agreed. fired the whole lot of them, they can go get jobs flipping burgers at McD or stocking shelves at Walmart which is all they deserve. Get people eager and willing to do the job in there (and there are 10,000's i'm sure)

If this isn't sarcasm you are a class A joker.

You do understand they are the gatekeepers to Canada, don't you? You will be they guy complaining 5 years down the road that Canada is too lax admitting people for permanent residence.

Put simply, those who are admitting abroad should be making the same salary as those who are admitting in Canada. To expect anything less is just opening the door wide for nothing but problems (and is quite honestly myopic much like the current government).
