Have you seen the news about a looming foreign service strike?

http://m.embassynews.ca/news/2013/04/03/foreign-service-union-in-legal-strike-position/43582

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-threatens-to-discipline-diplomats-taking-job-action/article10818080/

According to their union website, they have agreed upon essential services and they are recommending work to rule. This could impact most if not all outland applications.

This strike does not include immigration officers.

this is a good link to see whats going on

In am not sure how you arrived at that conclusion.

First, the dispute is about non-executive foreign-service officers. So, not ambassadors. But it does include people in visa processing, trade promotion, public affairs and most of the other jobs at Canadian missions abroad, as well as the same people when they’re rotating home to Canada.

The globe and mail and the embassy source also say otherwise...

The sixth paragraph/section of the link you posted says the following:

So I guess it does....Immigration Officer= Visa Officer

:(

EDIT* although "people in visa processing" is vague

even if it's not immigration officers, if their admin assistants aren't working at full capacity....

it says it does not include people working in visa processing centers, so that would mean everyone working in there not just the immigration officers, but also their assistants, front desk. etc.

Im not worried about it at all, it doesnt seem like its going to effect us.
:)

Yes, you are right. Bottom line then is if it goes as far as striking then those of us waiting on Outland applications will be effected.... For a lack of a better sentiment Boooo! :( :(

oh no ur right it says does,
i read it wrong.

but im still not worried about it at all.
they will sort it out internally before it has any effect on processing visas.

I think if it was a really big deal, they would have posted a news report about it on the CIC website.
and i havent seen one yet.
if it gets to the cic website, than i will take the info into consideration.
still waiting for it to come up on there if it does.

I hope you are right! I see they have had turmoil in this regards since 2011 from one of the other links posted above. Lets all pray they resolve the issue soon!

I am skeptical though, if they were going to find a resolution internally would we even hear this about about it?
