I'm just wondering about background checks. Is this a thing that is normally done and takes MORE time? My husband had to do military service when he was 18 years old, this is a mandatory thing in Turkey, he did 15 months. He never served in any war but he policed an area in Turkey after training to be a soldier. All males have to serve the country the same way, they are obligated to do so. Anyways I read a few posts from a while ago and just wondered.... ????

Background checks are done for all applicants, yes. How long it takes depends on the country/region the applicant is from. As Turkey has mandatory military service, it might take a little while longer for him than for someone coming from a country with no such compulsory service, but it might be shorter for him than for someone coming from, say the Balkans region, for example, as that region has been engaged in armed conflicts in the past decade or more.

Provided he just did basic military training, and as you say, policed an area after training, and this area is not known for anything like armed conflict, political instability etc etc, it shouldn't take an extraordinarily long time for this phase of his background to be verified.
