Can you be more specific about what visa has expired? You can apply for PGWP up to 90 days after your study permit expires. Why was your initial application rejected? Did you provide necessary and proper program completion letter from school?

Don't count until Nov 2017. Your study permit automatically stands invalid 90 days after your program has been completed.

i submitted all the requirements needed, my friend/classmate was approved. and it says on the refusal letter that the school is not one of the institution. but why my classmates application was approved and mine was not. my canadian visa was expired and planning to apply on the border. do you think it will work? im still on the 90 days to apply for pgwp.

Why would you expect the result to be any different at the border? When you fill out the new application, you will have to answer yes to the question: have you been denied a visa for entry to Canada?

There is obviously something else that you are not telling us. Your friend's outcome is irrelevant for your application. What school did you attend? What was your program? What date did you graduate? What date does your study permit expire? What information is on your study permit: institution; field of study?

If your study permit has expired, and you have been refused PGWP, then you are supposed to leave Canada per the conditions of your study permit. Your status is not automatically extended 90 days after your study permit expires, you need to apply for PGWP for you to have why's called implied status. But in your case, that application was denied, so you technically need to leave Canada based on the information you have provided. I would not recommend applying at the border.

One of your post about your friend...

Good day!

my friend's application for post graduate work permit, the reason of refusal the school was not qualified for open for permit but the school is designated as post secondary institution and can host international student. the school name is Professional Institute of Massage Therapy located in calgary, alberta.

any inputs regarding the situation? because im going to apply soon as well after getting my diploma.

thankyou, hope you can help me with this.

1. Your school is a DLI designated one but it's a private school. Private school do not qualify for PGWP.
2. Private schools with DLI can host international students and can offer full/part time programs with no PGWP eligibility (unless it's a full degree program).

This is wrong. You can apply for PGWP even if you attended a private school as long as you studied full time for at least 8 months and received a degree. This is what my spouse did.

Per IRCC website:

To obtain a work permit after your graduation, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have continuously studied full time in Canada and you must have completed a program of study that lasted at least eight months.
In addition, you must have graduated from:
a public post-secondary institution, such as a college, trade/technical school, university or CEGEP (in Quebec), or
a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as public institutions, or
a private secondary or post-secondary institution (in Quebec) offering qualifying programs of 900 hours or longer leading to a diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP) or an attestation de spécialisation professionnelle (ASP), or
a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees but only if you are enrolled in one of the programs of study leading to a degree as authorized by the province and not in all programs of study offered by the private institution.
You must apply for a work permit within 90 days of receiving written confirmation (for example, a transcript or an official letter) from your institution indicating that you have met the requirements for completing your academic program.
You must have completed and passed the program of study and received a notification that you are eligible to obtain your degree, diploma or certificate.
You must have a valid study permit when you apply for the work permit.

Based on the fact that your study permit has expired, you are not eligible to apply for a PGWP. You might be able to appeal your original application, but again, we need more information.

Looks like you aren't too attentive when reading other's post. Read again;

1. Your school is a DLI designated one but it's a private school. Private school do not qualify for PGWP.
2. Private schools with DLI can host international students and can offer full/part time programs with no PGWP eligibility (unless it's a full degree program).

FYI, there is no degree program in OP's institute.

a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees but only if you are enrolled in one of the programs of study leading to a degree as authorized by the province and not in all programs of study offered by the private institution.

Sorry, I should have clarified, this is wrong:

The OP's institute offers a two-year full time program leading to an Advanced Massage Therapy Diploma. In this case, it seems the diploma is not eligible under PGWP requirements for a degree.
