Pre-Assessed..
Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. I'm eligible to apply under CEC this month. However, I filled last years tax return late - only a few weeks ago. When I spoke with the CRA today they are telling me it takes roughly 16 weeks to complete the first tax return before the NOA is issued.

How long did it take you to receive your first NOA?

Thanks in advance.

James

Late returns take longer, and is subjective based on the complexity of the return. 16 weeks is probably the maximum amount of time, but you will be probably be looking at a couple of weeks at a minimum.

Has anyone applied while waiting on the NOA to be processed?

Will anyone be kind enough to let me know how long it took for them to receive their NOA after first tax return?

The information you have is correct. My First tax return in 2011 took 16 weeks.

I too am wondering the same, since this will be my first T4 and I am planning on applying without a NOA (to be forwarded when recieved from CRA at a later date). Any thoughts on this seniors?

Hi,

I spoke with my lawyer today and she says it will be fine without NOA - can always send it when it comes...

Yea, that I know is a must. And right now, its the only thing I'm waiting for...since my employer likes to send them out the last possible minute.

Thanks again!

When I applied last year, I saw that too. 16 weeks!!! I was devastated coz If i applied by the time it came I would risk expiration from my work permit with the process time.

However, Seton is right. That is the maximum. I applied a week after I got my T4, and I actually got it mid April. So maybe 1.5 months. Just apply immediately, be one of thr first! Any you may get lucky and get it earlier than 16 weeks

This is true, but you should include a written explanation why the NOA is missing and that you will add it to your application as soon as you receive it.
