Hi OnTheMove,

Just thought I would try to give you some support :). I know you are dealing with the NY office, but my husband sent his passport to Buffalo via US postal service (expresspost) with a self-addressed return envelope on August 27 (day after he recieved PPR) and recieved it back on September 4. Just a 1 week turnaround.

Here's hoping NY will be as fast and you get yours just as quick. Good luck. ;)
Thanks for your support! God knows I need it right now. :) I hope my passport return is as speedy as your husband's!

I thank you as well, journeyman. I read your reply on the other thread too :) I'm not as pressing as onthemove, but I will be in the US without hubby so I don't want to wait too long!

After all the years of an LD relationship you'd think that a month max apart before our lifetime together wouldn't bother me, but it does :(

Trust me I understand. It's been one calamity after another which has kept us from living together, even though my husband is in the US and should have been able to join me here. :( Can't wait until he lands for good in early October. I leave on September 26 to go "fetch" him and move here. Everything will have been worth it in the end. ;)

I have another question about the PPR... the actual letter is at Mom's and they just read it to me over the phone. They want four photos with the application. Other than the photos, do I have to send anything else besides the passport and the letter? I don't want to leave something here in Toronto that I may need.

The letter itself (you need to fill out some portions of it), passport, and 4 Visa photos is all they asked for.
Make sure you bring the bar code stickies to put on the envelope.

If I remember correctly, SBW, you did not get these since your AOR was by email. I would just put your file number on prominently on the outside of the envelope (anything to try and speed up the process :D). Other than that, you should be good to go.

Oh, that's right!
On the PPR letter there should be a bar code sticker. What I would do since you dont' have the stickers is make a copy of the sticker that's on the PPR letter, cut it out, and tape it on the outside of the envelope. The scanner should be able to read it.

And I didn't know about the bar code sticker, since my husband got his PPR by email ::) Anyways, I think taping the sticker to the envelope is a good idea ;)

I am joining to this group after all! I just got an e-mail from Buffalo this morning! ??? (sorry to cross post everyone!)

I am a bit concerned about my FBI certificate that I sent 2 weeks ago. I put immigration file number sticker on the envelope *and* on the actual certificate so they can put two and two together! :p

Here is the e-mail that I got...

I am confused...Even you are in Canada they wanted you to use either U.S. regular mail or FedEx??? Oh I guess they assume that we are all in the States.. ??? I am "visiting" my hubby in Canada while the PR in process so I have the same problem once I get my PPR.

I am glad you told us about this..I will be trying to purchase the prepaid FexEx label..do we need a FedEx envelope with the label? or does it come with the envelope if we buy??
How about pictures or anything we should be prepared for? Only passport they want us to turn in?

I am glad you got your PPR!!! You are our first June via Buffalo person! Woot!! :) ;) :D

Ohmigod--If you get transferred to Detroit--there is one nightmare. When you send your passport in, they do not accept anything but FedEx and the U.S. mail regular only, if you are in Canada. They insist that you send a prepaid FexEx courier label. You must do it online, and we are on dial-up. We had to disconnect and dial for each individual question. They tell you to follow the instructions exactly, but what they don't tell you is that even the FedEx people cannot figure out what to do. It took us approximately two hours online, and 25 questions, and ten phone calls with fourteen separate people before we got a successful result.

FedEx operator even knew the situation. She said, "Yeah, Detroit, they are the only ones who insist on it that way, and I have no idea why, but it is a little bit of a nightmare."

If you get to this stage, then drop me a message.

Great day, but, god, are we exhausted. . . . . .

May this please be the last horrid hurdle before we can be together.

Alright, I'm Stateside now and I'm off to mail my PP when the post office opens (got in too late yesterday!). I made up two envelopes but I'm pretty sure that at least the return one will have to be theirs. Gonna get tracking and signature confirmation on the original but not express since mail to NYC from here just takes 2 days anyway and money is a factor :( There's also not a HUGE press for time.

I was a little confused about the pictures... write on the back of one and put it in an envelope and put the remaining in another envelope? It sounded like maybe that's more for people with multiple dependents but I followed the instructions anyway!

Here's hoping I get it back soon :)

Hey michaelab,

Well, I sent my passport in via FedEx and included a pre-paid labeled FedEx envelope. CIC NYC does say they would only return mail via FedEx if it's pre-paid from a corporate account. But I don't really see a difference between a corporate account and a personal account. The evelope is pre-paid and labeled!

Also I had my own reasons to send it via FedEx. If they don't mail my passport back to me by the end of the month, I will re-route the mail to a different address where I will be residing until I finally move to Canada.
