Hey Rocket city,
How much time did it take for ottawa to return your passports?
They received my passport on March 12. They activated my self addressed envelope on March 26. I believe I got my passport back on March 28. However, the last part is dependent on what type of postage you/they used to send back the passport. So, I'll say 2 weeks from receipt to return as far as processing time is concerned.

Awesome. Thank you for letting me know that. Can you tell me if you used a Fedex return envelope or a Canada post one? I wanted to use a Fedex one because I just trust them more, but they included in the mail that they only accept Canadapost lablels.

I used a Canada Post XpressPost USA label.

Hi Everyone !!!

I am really interested to know why Ottawa (Case Processing Centre) - Canada is taking 20 MONTHS just for security and medical checks for Quebec skilled workers, while on the other hand, it is processing Express entry applications from A to Z in just 6 months. Am I missing something here? because honestly it just... does .. not .. make .. sense.

Any logical \ illogical theories are welcome. ::)

They are focusing on Express Entry for now. And for Express Entry, your AOR is being given out in about 10 minutes to 5 days after you apply. This is what is taking the most time for QSW. What takes an absurdly fast 10 minutes from when you apply thru EE, takes 4 months for QSW. The BG and Security checks take the same time. Its the AOR thats the clincher.

My Gcms notes shows my criminality in progress since AOR till now. It's been 15 months. I don't think EE takes the same time.

Hey all--just wanted to let you all know that I received my COPR in the mail yesterday!!!! I'm so freakin' excited!!! There are some errors on the "original entry" date and the "last entry date" (they're the same date, and neither are my original OR last entry lol) but every source I've seen said they make those kind of minor errors all the time and they can correct it at the border.

I'm renting a communauto and driving down to flagpole at the border to get it all filled out tonight...I'll let you guys know about it!

This is not reassuring :( It's been almost 10 months for me now, and I'm hoping I'd get it in about a year (+/- 2 months). I have plans that require the PR, and if the PR is delayed, the plans will get delayed as well! :/

Okay, so as promised--

I'm a US citizen and have been living in Montreal, so I figured the easiest way to land would be to go and flagpole around the border. My girlfriend (who is a Canadian) and I got a Communauto car and drove down to the border at St-Bernard-Lacolle on Thursday evening. Since it was a weekday night, it was completely deserted--the US border guard didn't even give me the refusal paper (probably because I'm a US Citizen) but just told me to turn off and circle back to the Canadian crossing.

When I got to the Canadian border guard, I told them I was there to land as a permanent resident. They looked at my passport and told me to go park in a certain space in the lot and go inside the building.

Again, since it was a weekday night, there was almost nobody there. I went to the counter and told them I was there to land as a permanent resident. She asked me for:

  • My CoPR
  • My passport and current work permit
  • My CSQ (DON'T FORGET THIS!)
  • Proof of funds--I didn't know I had to bring this, but I brought up my bank balance on my phone and she just wrote down the number.

She had me look over the CoPR and asked me if there were any mistakes. I told her the last date entered, first date entered, and place of last entry were all wrong. She said "oh, that doesn't matter." She then asked me to read the two questions on the CoPR form ("Have you been convicted of a crime..." and "Do you have any additional dependents...") and write down the answer and put my initials next to the answer. She also asked me to write down my current address. I said no to both, wrote down the address, and then she told me to sign and date both CoPR copies. I did it and then she had me sit down while she did some processing.

After a couple minutes, she called me back up and told me that I was a permanent resident! She gave me a little talk about my rights as a PR and what I needed to do to maintain my status, and then said that they would mail the PR card within 6-8 weeks. She also said I would need to call the RAMQ to modify my status for Quebec Medicare.

...then, she asked me if me and my girlfriend would like a picture next to the Canadian flag, which she took for us :)

Overall it was a really easy process--and what a relief!

Hi guys,

I finally received my "Ready for visa", aka PPR, email on 4/30/2015 - one year to the day after they received my application.
My status has been "Application Received" all along. Only today (or maybe yesterday) did it change to Decision Made.

Good luck to all those waiting and Congrats to those who reached the end of this leg of the journey.
