It's completely standard

If you are from a visa exempt country you need to wait for your confirmation of pr as no passport is requested from holders from these countries

If you require a visa they will send you another email asking for your passport

what's landing?

sounds like they need your money first lol

whatever happened to the IELTS issue?

OK, stupid question of the year. What exactly is landing? I understand it as a formality of going of the country and coming back in as a resident, or coming in for the first time if accepted.

Correct? Does everyone have to land? I live close to the border (Vancouver) but it's still a bit of a pain; I've been here for over 10 years! :D

Hey guys, I have a question.
I have send my passport to Ottawa by Xpresspost.
I also included self-addressed Xpresspost envelope inside first envelope.

However, I did a mistake: this self-addressed Xpresspost envelope was a smaller size than first envelope.
Do you think, it can be a problem ? (I am afraid that they send back passport and some other papers, and they do not want to fold it to fit inside smaller self-addressed envelope).

Dont worry. I did the same - mine was returned in the same smaller envelope.

Re: what's landing?

You become a PR when you land. Landing is a must even though you're already in Canada. Landing is simple process of arriving at a Canadian Border Office.

You've 2 options to complete landing:
1) Come back to Canada in a commercial vehicle (flight / bus / train).
2) Drive to the Canada-US border. If you've a US visa - Enter US and come back. If you don't have US visa (or if you dont want to go to US) - Get a administrative refusal slip from the US border office and come back to Canada. Some borders (peace bridge - fort erie) have option of U-turn at the Canadian border. You dont need to go to the US side if you can take a U-turn.

At the Canadian border office, tell the officer that you're here to complete landing.

Following documents are a must: Passports, 2 copies of CoPR.
Some officers ask for the following additional documents: Work permits, Proof of funds (bank statements , pay stubs, employment letter), drivers license.

Search the forum for posts about landing experience.

thanks for the help guys. I read on the interwebs that you could also land at a CIC office. I'll wait for the info once I receive it. Border is close enough too, I could go check out our southernly cousins for a while and come back and land.

you can land at a CIC office - someone here got an appointment within a couple of days but that was over the holiday period - I've seen other reports that it takes 4 months to get an appointment :s

Yes, landing is instant. With the CIC office route, they have to see you before your COPR expires, and it's completely arbitrary when they give you the appointment, although you can request it urgently if you need it done sooner.

I'm possibly going to do the appointment thing, as I'm somewhat mortified of travelling anywhere close to the US. I have an irrational fear of customs. lol

If nothing is started then you can't really worry because they haven't looked at your application so there's no reason for concern :)
Remember too that gcms is a snapshot from a while back and it takes less than a day to do eligibility
