from todays budget document

"Citizenship Program
Economic Action Plan 2013 proposes $44 million over two years to support improved
capacity and client service in the Citizenship Program.
For many newcomers, becoming a Canadian citizen is a significant step,
creating a stronger bond to the economic and social fabric of Canada.
To help ensure more timely access to the benefits that citizenship confers,
Economic Action Plan 2013 proposes funding of $44 million over two years,
beginning in 2013–14, for the Citizenship Program to improve the
processing of applications. Economic Action Plan 2013 proposes to enable
the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism to set fees
in a timely and efficient manner."

to be paid through fees? will it become $400 now?

in Australia the fee is only $260 and yet the processing time is only 2 months (yes, you heard it right, TWO months, not years, but months) from application lodgement to approval. http://www.immi.gov.au/about/charters/client-services-charter/standards/2.7.htm

In the UK it's £891 which comes out at about $1340.
Consider yourselves lucky!!!

Unfortunately it's more difficult these days, than stealing a loaf of bread or buying a £10 ticket, to get to Australia ;D

Wow, I thought you get $200 if you immigrate to Australia...

Totally agree. In addition, why would new citizens accept to add more economical burden on Canada, We need to pay for our processing fees. Weather it’s a 200 CAD or 1000 CAD to get our applications processed in reasonable time. Otherwise, the years and years of waiting time sounds reasonable for those they want the government to suck in their fees. Remember not every applicant to citizenship has generated tax into the system. Therefore, paying the fees of handling applications is the least that can be done about it

I'm willing to pay to get my application in a reasonable amount of time too!

I'm really happy this is happening now. I'm going to be applying for citizenship in 2015 :)
