We are US citizens looking to relocate for a year. We will not work in Canada, just enjoy the sights and live in a city, perhaps Montreal. Looking at visas, I have not found a way to apply ahead of time for a year-long tourist visa. Is that correct?

Also, what is the process to bring a dog?

Thank you!

you cannot stay in Canada for more than 6 months at one time as a tourist. You can, however, apply for an extension in your stay close to the end of that 6 month period.

When you apply for an extension does it come as a piece of paper? That you keep with you in your passport? Because I am am planning on changing my passport right after applying for extension is it ok?
