I married a Jamaican man and sponsored him to come to Canada. We are now divorced. Do I have to wait 3 years before I can sponsor someone else? My former spouse is working. He was never on welfare. It was an abusive relationship.
Is there any way to get around the 3 year time period?

I don't believe you can get around it.

You're not eligible to sponsor someone if you're still responsible for them under an undertaking, or if you owe debts as a result of the undertaking.

In your case, since the undertaking is still in force, there is no assurance that your former spouse won't stop working tomorrow and go on welfare.

I'm sorry about your previous relationship and relieved you are out of it.

Be aware that future sponsorships will be reviewed with increased scrutiny.

Yes - you must wait three years from the date he landed in Canada and became a PR. No - there is no way around this rule.
