Dear,

I currently study in the US and I don't have the US citizenship or the green card. My wife has the Canadian permanent residency and we are thinking of moving to Canada. Since I'm not a Canadian or have the PR, my wife is going to have to sponsor me. I want to know if the processing time is quicker if she were to sponsor me while I'm outside of Canada compared to if I were living inside it. Also how long does it approximately take form the moment she applies until I receive the PR?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It will probably be faster if you apply from outside of Canada. However it's impossible to say for certain. Since you are in the US with temporary status only, there's a chance CIC may decide to process your file through your home visa office - which may have an impact on how long things take. I would assume it's going to take at least 10 months to got PR if you apply outland. However it could very well be longer.

Note that since your wife is a PR she must be living in Canada when she applies to sponsor you and she must continue living in Canada while your application is being processed until you are approved. A few short trips outside of Canada won't be an issues. However she will have to be primarily living in Canada during the application process for your application to be approved.
