Hello, helpful peeps. :D
My husband is first generation born abroad to a Canadian parent. He received his proof of citizenship last year.
We have been married 7 years and have 2 children together. Since they are second generation born abroad, they do not receive automatic Canadian citizenship. We all have UK citizenship. Is there a way for the children and me to get Canadian citizenship while the whole family is still living abroad?

The immigration website only seems to have two options - sponsor living in Canada sponsoring family living outside Canada and sponsor living in Canada with family already in Canada. How about sponsor living outside Canada with family, so we can all get our documents in order before heading over?

Thanks.

You and your kids must first all be sponsored for PR. Just select the "outside" Canada option as a Canadian citizen doesn't need to be inside Canada to sponsor their family.

The PR process can take 6-12 months (check the London visa office thread for more recent times people are seeing), during which time you can all stay in the UK. You will need to show proof you intend to move to Canada after PRs are approved.

Once you all have PR, the kids will then qualify immediately for Canadian citizenship since they are minors and their father is Canadian.

However you will need to qualify for citizenship the normal way by first spending 4 years living in Canada.

You've slightly misunderstood the options available.

Your partner can sponsor you (and the children) for permanent residency. Because he is a citizen, he can do that from anywhere in the world.

Once you are PRs, your children of a citizen can immediately take citizenship, you will need to live in Canada for 4 years and then take the test for citizenship.
