Hey everyone, I have a question about the refugee process in Canada.
Someone I know claimed asylum based on being LGBTQ, even though they’re not actually gay. They had their hearing, got accepted, and now they have PR and are waiting to apply for citizenship.
If they marry a woman and start a family before getting citizenship, could that cause problems? Or is it better to wait until after becoming a citizen?
Also, are there any risks later on because the original claim wasn’t true?
Would appreciate any advice or if someone has seen a similar situation.
I mean, in a way, it shouldn’t really be an issue since sexual orientation can be fluid, right?

Your sexuality can always change…a bisexual can marry and give birth…no cause for alarm

A PR can marry and have children before citizenship, but the bigger risk is that if IRCC discovers the original asylum claim was false, it could lead to losing PR status or being denied citizenship. Sexual orientation fluidity doesn’t protect against misrepresentation. Consulting an immigration lawyer is strongly recommended.

Even citizenship does not protect people if an asylum claim was based upon misrepresentation which is why it is a very bad idea. You will be at risk of losing status in Canada and being deported for life.

Would add by not reporting your friend you are adding to Canadian’s mistrust of the asylum system and immigration in general. You are part of the problem. The more people do this the higher chance there will be some sort of review to see how much fraud has happened and that genuine LGBTQ applicants will start getting denied.

fake lgbt asylum in canada is very common. many people are abusing this.

by asking this question you literally speak for yourself . you ask this because you defrauded the system and now you want to abuse it .now the others upcoming refugees will suffer the consequences
anyway i will answer you honestly yes marrying a woman is fine for yourself because sexuality is volatile and fluide .

Although sexuality is fluid if you were adamant you were gay and needed protection it would be extremely unusual for sexuality to change soon after gaining more permanent status. As an adult living in a country where it is not safe to be gay many often try to be in heteronormative relationships for safety reasons. Also if you are no longer in a same sex relationship (you may have never been in one) you no longer need protection to return to most countries. Sadly there are many LGBTQIA+ individuals whose lives are truly at risk due to their sexuality and it will be for the rest of the lives who deserve asylum.

Please

I’m gay . Cut the bullshit

Seriously, just stop
As pointed out , Canadians trust in the system has been destroyed . Not damaged , but destroyed, all because of crap like this .
It’ll never recover .

I saw a lady sitting outside the Sobeys in west end Toronto the other day with a sign stating she was a refugee and needed help . People were outright avoiding her. Why ? Because the trust has been destroyed by people’s bullshit claims. It’s assumed now they are lying

I wouldn’t give a cent to someone now . I’m fortunate. I used to give money to shelters , food banks every year . That’s all stopped . I don’t care about their story . It’s assumed it’s bullshit . You’ve just supported my theory by your idiotic posting

Fraudulent claims have damaged Canadians psyche . Used to be a trusting society . I blame the Government for not stopping this .
The damage that’s done will never be repaired

I am interested to see how the new c12 bill will affect things. Simular to the above story, I know someone who claimed asylum based on being a lesbian, married a canadian man AND vacationed in her home country for almost a year after getting pr. She has not faced any consequences. I feel there are many fake asylum seekers who are really economic migrants - sometimes the mainstream news interviews them too.
