Hey everyone, I have a question about the refugee process in Canada.
Someone I know claimed asylum based on being LGBTQ, even though they’re not actually gay. They had their hearing, got accepted, and now they have PR and are waiting to apply for citizenship.
If they marry a woman and start a family before getting citizenship, could that cause problems? Or is it better to wait until after becoming a citizen?
Also, are there any risks later on because the original claim wasn’t true?
Would appreciate any advice or if someone has seen a similar situation.
I mean, in a way, it shouldn’t really be an issue since sexual orientation can be fluid, right?

Your sexuality can always change…a bisexual can marry and give birth…no cause for alarm

A PR can marry and have children before citizenship, but the bigger risk is that if IRCC discovers the original asylum claim was false, it could lead to losing PR status or being denied citizenship. Sexual orientation fluidity doesn’t protect against misrepresentation. Consulting an immigration lawyer is strongly recommended.

Even citizenship does not protect people if an asylum claim was based upon misrepresentation which is why it is a very bad idea. You will be at risk of losing status in Canada and being deported for life.

Would add by not reporting your friend you are adding to Canadian’s mistrust of the asylum system and immigration in general. You are part of the problem. The more people do this the higher chance there will be some sort of review to see how much fraud has happened and that genuine LGBTQ applicants will start getting denied.
