Hi,

I'm planning to visit my husband (Canadian) mid of June. He's my sponsor and by that time we will have sent our application for my PR.
I would like to ask at the border for 90 days visitor visa. My nationality is German... I also would book a return flight ticket. Is this enough as proof that I'm only visiting family or do I need more proof of having ties to my home country?
If I should get it approved, I would also like to apply for extension while remaining in CA. Now I saw the processing times on CIC website and it will take up to 60+ days (online) if it gets approved and even more via mail...
Is it advisable to send in the application for extension already that many days ahead before my visitor visa would expire or could I also send it two weeks before expiration? Do I get that implied status till CIC makes a decision or would I be illegal in the country when I'm not leaving at that day, if they write a specific date in my passport?

I should mention that I got denied in January (allowed to withdraw application to enter Canada), but when I'm going in June I'm travelling with my new passport after marriage. I mentioned that in my application as I don't want to hide sth. Can CBSA find out what happened in January even when I use my new passport? I'm kind of worried that I don't get in... I also don't want to endanger my application...

I really appreciate any advise, comments or suggestions how to do it. THANK YOU.

I don't get it, Germans don't need TRVs. Also you can't request a TRV at the border. So what are you really thinking of? Requesting a visitor status for 90 days?

No, it is not enough, yo need a letter of employment or something similar that shows you have reasons to go back to Germany.

So you are asking for 90 days and already planning for an extension? Request upfront the time you will need.

At least 4 weeks before expiration of the visitor status.

Hi

Don't ask for any specific amount of time at the border. Most likely, you will just be given the standard 6 months. With proof of the submitted sponsorship app, proof of funds and a return ticket, you should be fine; CBSA is pretty lenient when they see people following the proper procedure in applying for spousal sponsorship.

You could send it 2 days before your status actually expires if you want. CIC recommends applying 30 days ahead of time but as long as the app is submitted while you have current status in Canada, you will have Implied Status after expiry until CIC makes a decision on the app.

Yes, CBSA can find out you were refused entry in January. There's no need for you to volunteer the info but if they ask, don't lie.

Thanks for your answer Jalex23!

Maybe you didn't understand what I was asking... If you arrive at the airport I have to fill out that Immigration card and there is one point where you have to mention how long you are intend to stay in the country... I know that I can't request TRV at the border!

Thank you canuck_in_uk for your words!
So should I leave a space on my immigration card where they ask how long I intend to stay in Canada?

You can put the date of your return ticket. What I meant is don't actually ask the CBSA officer for a specific amount of time.

How does filling the immigration card means you are asking for a visitor visa (TRV)? And if you know you can't request for a TRV why do you ask that?

"I would like to ask at the border for 90 days visitor visa."

Filling the card is just the amount of days you plan to stay, nothing more. It is not a petition for a TRV, and it is not the amount of time you will be allowed.

Put in the card whatever time you intend to stay in Canada at the time of entry. If you have a return ticket then write down that date.

Thanks for trying to help me Jalex23, but I don't want to waste my time. Treat people like you like to be treated.
