We were suppose to get married in March. My grandmother fell ill and we pushed the wedding to this September 5th.

I came to Canada in March still as planned since I had already had notice in with my work.

I am looking to renew my visitor visa and need some advice on the best way to do this. I will be in Canada from March 13 - August 22.

We are looking to apply in the next few weeks because I would like to reenter Canada with him the day after the wedding September 6th. He will be driving to Ohio for the wedding and I will be driving back with him and his family. Once we are back we will be applying for PR. Should I try to explain all this in my extension application... We are not married yet so I don't want to say too much and shoot myself in the foot.

I just want to avoid any possible problems coming back over the boarder and I figured if I already had the extension passed and could show that it would help.

Thank you!!

You want to renew a TRV or to extend a Visitor Status?

Your question is a bit confusing. You appear to be a US citizen in which case you are able to enter on your passport alone and don't need a visa to enter Canada as a tourist.

Extensions only work provided that you remain in Canada. Once you leave Canada, the extension is effectively voided and when you enter Canada you'll be entering as a new visitor.

If you are staying in Canada from March to August and then leaving - there is no point applying for an extension since it will be void as soon as you leave Canada. When you re-enter Canada in September, you'll be assessed as a new visitor to Canada by border agents.

Thank you I am more or less just worried about them telling me I have already stayed 6 months in a calendar year and denying me reentry....

Yes I am from the States. When I come back over after the wedding do I just let them know I am looking to apply for PR?

Yes, it would be a problem.... and it is not in "a calendar year" but in "the last year".

They will surely ask what kind of job lets you stay out for a year, why can't you apply staying in your home country (as tons of other applicants are forced to do)? What is your plan while you "wait", etc. etc. Really can't tell if it will be an issue as this is assessed by the CBSA officer at the point of entry and they can deny re-entry or they can care less...

We have money saved for the waiting period already. I am choosing not to apply from in the states because of the years we have already waited and saved up. I have spent a lot of time on forums and it seems to be pretty common between the states and Canada. There are also tons of couples who do the entire process from inside Canada. The only reason I am concerned is that we had to push back the wedding 6 months and the application process as well.

I will not be at 6 months when I try to reenter just very close. Is it better to pay the PR fees and have that when I come back over the boarder?

Very close and on the 6 months mark is basically the same, it would be different if for example it was three months short of the 6 months.... or something obvious.

I wouldn't think that paying the fees actually matters. You are entering Canada as a VISITOR to LIVE while you wait to submit a PR and until it's outcome... as you can see this is contradictory.... so the CBSA officer can feel that you are abusing the visitor status (visitors are expected to VISIT and leave).... or maybe the CBSA officer will be ok with this and won't even blink.... hard to say.

You should be fine. Pay the full PR fees and have the receipt with you. Also carry proof of funds, such as bank statements or your spouse's pays stubs. Don't come with all of your wordly possessions and don't say you are living in or moving to canada; you are visiting with your spouse while your PR app processes. This is a very common scenario and CBSA is fairly lenient in such cases.

It makes a very big difference. In the eyes of CBSA, it shows that the person knows the rules and is following them.

Do I have to check in with cbsa to inform them that I applied for extension since I am given 2 mos trv only?Although I have sent application for extension 29 days before my initial visa expires.

You don't have a TRV. You have visitor status.

You don't need to check in with CBSA. The extension app is essentially void once you leave the country. You will be assessed as a new visitor on your next entry.
