Hey everyone,

I'm in a relationship with my boyfriend for 1 year and a half almost. Currently i'm in Canada visiting him for the last 4 months. I'm from a visa exempt country so I can stay for 6 moths. We want to extend my visitor visa now so we can eventually apply for common-law sponsorship. I have so many questions and I hope that maybe somebody has some answers :)

1. When applying for a tourist visa extension is there a specif amount of time I should apply for? 6 months, 8, a year? I can't find any info on CIC website.
2.Also when filling up the only application it asks me if I have a family member in Canada. Can my boyfriend be considered as my committed partner for at least one year (who have never lived together)? We traveled a lot, everyone know us a couple, i met his parents & friends, he met mine, we lived together the last 4 months together... Or is it better to just mentioned I don't have a family member I want to extend my visa for tourism and there mentioned that I want to stay with my boyfriend/partner for longer so we could eventually apply for common law?

3.If do fill that I have a family member do we need to provide evidence that we are a couple??

Thank you all for your time :)and hope to hear from someone soon :D Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

1. Ask for a year. You need 8 months to reach common law status so be safe and ask for a year. You will probably have to extend it again at the end of the visitor record.

2. Where does it ask you if you have family? Which form and question? Your boyfriend is not classed as family.

3. Provide proof if you have it. I have proof that I am married (marriage certificate). I included that and I have received 2 extensions this year no problem.
