Extending Work Permit

Hello all, I have an open work permit and I have worked full time for an employer in Montreal in NOC B for one year and a half. I need to extend my work permit but I dont know how I can do that. Should the comoany apply for LMIA? My company also does not know exactly what are the steps for the LMIA. Should the company prove that they tried to hire a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to fill the position ?

On what basis do you have an open work permit? Is it a PGWP? Something else?

My wife is an international student so I have an open work permit but we cannot wait for her to graduate and apply for my work permit. I need to extend my own work permit sooner.
