My mum is down hear with me helping with my daughter who is 2.5 year old. She came in January 2010. We extended visa from Aug until January 2011. My question is possible to seek for another extension as am still working full time. I can find any information about this. Idid his family sponsorship ages ago and its still pending in home country.

hi! i read your reply in the other thread but did not want to post there since there's a lot of discussion :) that i don't want to be bothered with.

i've been trying to find out for awhile now if immigrants can work in government jobs...you mentioned you worked for the a certain city or municipality...does that mean we as immigrants can work in government jobs and not just private companies?

As far as I am aware a Permanent Resident can work in a Federal job, but...

The jobs are normally advertised as for Citizens only, but if no security clearance is required a PR might be allowed to get the job. I know one PR that did get a government job.
For Federal jobs it is implied that you need to be a Citizen and usually there is a requirement that you are bilingual.

What permanent residents can do

As a permanent resident, you and your dependants have the right:

To receive most social benefits that Canadian citizens receive, including health care coverage.
To live, work or study anywhere in Canada.
To apply for Canadian citizenship.
To protection under Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
You must pay taxes, and respect all Canadian laws at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.

What permanent residents cannot do

As a permanent resident, you and your dependants cannot:

Vote or run for political office.
Hold certain jobs that have a high-level security clearance requirement.

Remain in Canada if you are convicted of a serious criminal offence and have been told to leave the country.

Well if it does, my spousal application will be looked at, I have applied twice so far :)

I think that each case is different, all you can do is be truthful, provide as much information as possible and hope for the best.
There are people who have been granted multiple extensions.
