So I did the questionnaire to determine if you're eligible and it asked if I have resided in a designated country for more than 6 months. I have been in Canada in 6 month intervals since December 2012. I would leave for a week or two to reset my status on my passport. I was told by immigration, as long as you leave then it's reset. Would this be a problem in extending my stay?

Also it asked to provide proof of funds to support yourself while here. Is it okay to say my husband will support me and show his bank statement or..?

I'm not applying for an extension just yet. Looking into the possibility. Would have to apply By May 8th.

When they say "designated country" they dont mean staying in Canada. There is a list of countries that, if you resided in them for six months, you would need a medical clearance done. I am a US citizen "visiting" my spouse and about to send in my PR application. When I applied for my first extension I sent a letter from my spouse stating she would be providing me financial support during my stay in Canada. Everything was fine and I got a response in 7 days. Good luck!

So I'd put "no" to the designated country question?
And did you apply for "more than 6 months" or less? I haven't filled out the application but it asked that on the questionnaire (how long you want to stay). Since it's for PR I've read people say that asking for a year is perfectly fine (so, more than 6 months).

You just sent a letter. No proof of your spouse's funds? Like bank account statement or something?
Sorry for all the questions. I really wouldn't want to get an extension denied.

I applied for the first extension only for six months because I didnt want to push it before I had applied for PR. When my next extension comes I will try for more than 6 months and see how it goes. I am assuming it will be fine since now I have a medical and police clearance. When you apply electronically they only let you upload one document so I could only send them the letter of financial support. I dont know why someone said you have to prove YOU have money. If you are "visiting" Canada for a year with your spouse I would imagine they feel better seeing that you arent working illegally and show a ton of money on your own. Thats just my opinion though.

Yeah I think 6 months would be fine. Because I'm hoping the PR process only takes 7-9 months. I'd leave at the end of my extension to gather my belongings in the US before landing.
Did you have to send photos in as well? I thought I saw that on the list with the documents...

Yeah I could have sworn I had read people told CIC that their spouse would financially support them during their visit. It might be more of a red flag if it were a boyfriend/girlfriend but since it's your husband/wife they probably don't mind as much?

Yeah I think it is way better that its your spouse. I sent in one picture and I just took it on my phone and uploaded it lol. I actually just found out that for PR they have to be done by a photographer. Everytime I think I am ready to send my application I run into another bump. Ugh.

Really?!?! I thought the photo(s) had to be similar to the PR ones? 35mm, certain height and all that??

That probably is the case. Now that l look back I think I lucked out. Maybe they arent as strict on that as people make it seem but I will not be taking anymore chances lol.

Ok I just looked and the requirements are way less strict for the extension than the PR application. Phew.

Where did you find the requirements? I want to make sure I was on the right page :)

I just did the "determine my eligibility" until it took me to the document checklist then clicked the question mark next to digital photo.

ok, thanks! ^_^

Absolutely not true in the slightest. I sent nothing to show any money of my own (I had none, besides the "allowance" my husband deposits in our joint account twice a month). For my extension, we sent in a copy of my husband's pay statement (it was December, and it had year-to-date info on it, so it showed most of a year's income). We said I would be staying with him, and he would be supporting me. We had already sent in my PR app the previous October, so in the extension request, I stated I had an active inland PR application and would like to stay with my husband for the duration of the process. Requested one year and received it.

I was pretty positive that statement was wrong. Good to know from multiple sources.
Thanks as always QuebecOkie! :)
Hopefully we can send everything off before I apply for an extension as I know I am way more likely to get the extension if I already have my application sent.
