extend visa before traveling

Hi,
We (me and my family) got a visit visa for 6-month and it will expire in March 2017.
Due to certain circumstances we will not be able to travel before May 2017 (new things happen after we applied for the visa).
My questions are:
1- Can we apply to extend the visa or to change its expiry date?
2- If not, it will be expired and we will not be able to use it, is this going to be a problem for us if we apply again in the future?

1. Unfortunately this isn't possible. You will need to apply for a brand new visa if you want to come in the future.
