Hello,

I am creating my first express entry profile. Under section work experience, there are two questions:

1) In the last ten years, how many years of skilled work experience in Canada do you have?

Is this the work experience acquired while working in Canada?

2) In the last 10 years, how many total years of skilled work experience do you have?

Does this include foreign work experience? If so, there is a bucket for 3 years and above. Does this mean there is no difference between someone with foreign work experience of 4 years vs. 9 years?

I am a Software Engineer (NOC: 2173, Type A) and I am trying to understand where should I categorize my experience. I have 9 years of experience in IT field.

Thanks!

Thanks Vaishnavi for your quick reply.

Boy, this sucks! :) I was hoping to get some points based on my work experience, guess I have to stick with "3 years and above" value under second question.

1) Yes only work experience done in Canada
2) Yes this includes any work experience (inc outside Canada) the most points you can claim is for 3 years so only put down experience you will be claiming points on for 3 years min.

For example if you had:
Job A - 4 years exp
Job B - 2 years
job C - 1 year

Ideally you would only enter job A as this covers the three years and would only have to get a reference letter from that job.

Note that different NOC codes do not stack, it all has to be the same

Dear god, this post is a mess.

1 - The second question although it doesn't specify refers ONLY to foreign work experience.
2 - As long as the applicant has a year of continuous work experience in his/her Primary NOC (if FSW applicant) HE CAN use other skilled NOC's to claim CRS points.
