Express entry - open work permit

I have applied to the express entry program as the primary applicant. I have been working for more than 1 year in Canada on an Open Work Permit. When I applied for the express entry program, even though I have a valid job offer, I am not getting the 50 points for job offer category. What am I missing? My job would be LMIA exempt since it's on an Open Work Permit. What fields in the form would I need to update to get those 50 points?

You don't qualify for the 50 job offer points on an open work permit. What you have doesn't qualify as a job offer under EE. Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA if you want the 50 points.

You would only qualify for the 50 points on an LMIA-exempt work permit if you held a closed work permit (e.g. ICT) where the employer is named on the work permit.

Since you hold an open work permit, the points are only possible with an approved LMIA.

So you cannot get 50 points if you’re applying with an Open Work Permit? In that case, the primary applicant must be under Closed Work Permit? Also irrespective of the type of work permit, after one year of working with the company, you would automatically become LMIA exempt right?

You can get the 50 points applying with an open work permit as long as your employer has also obtained an approved LMIA. If you are on a closed work permit through an LMIA, then you get the 50 points right away. If you are on an LMIA-exempt closed work permit, then you can qualify for the points after a year of working for the employer in Canada.

No, you do not automatically become LMIA exempt after working with the company for a year. This statement is not accurate.

Already answered. You would need an approved LMIA from your employer.
