Didnt expect a change in 2 days. BGC changed from Not Needed to Not Started!

Not sure if this means the application has reached NDVO or some other office in India.

Hi Everyone,

Had another movement in our application.

Old:

New:

BGC has moved from Not Started back to Not Needed.

So far it has followed the trend indicated by one of our senior posters:

Not needed at this time > Not started> Not needed at this time> In progress> Passed

Not needed at this time > Not started> Not needed at this time> In progress> Not needed at this time> In progress> Passed

Not sure if the application has now reached the local visa office. If it is NDVO, then its going to be a long wait now while the work on the backlog. But overall, we are happy that there has been some positive movement since 31 Dec 2016.

Next Stop > BGC = In Progress :)

for whoever can access the December spreadsheet
please update kk1988 to medical passed...other not started yet

WoW, congratulations!

I just submitted the additional document and hope my BG could change back to NN soon. Good luck to us all!

you're an inland applicant, right ?
if so looks like it might start to move for us as well… :D

Hi All

Following is my timeline

ITA - 2 Nov 2016
Application Submission & AOR - 4 Dec 2016
Medical passed - 11 Dec 2016
Background check - 15 Dec 2016 - Not started to Not needed at this time

Review eligibility - in progress
Final decision - not started
Additional document - no additional documents required
Scheduling an interview - not needed at this time
Application status - open

For most of the applicants background check changes quickly to in progress once it is moved from NS to NN, however in my case there is no change since 15 Dec, should I be worried about it?

I am an applicant from India, me and my spouse are part of this application, we have travel history but very minimal (10 days to 30 days max) to Europe and USA, will that be reason for the stuck background check status?

Appreciate any insights.

Regards
JW8

Could the custodian of December spreadsheet share the link for the sheet which we can use in our signature and also update my case in the sheet please?

It is better to use the December AOR Tracker - you can then get the signature which will be updated automatically when you update your case.

The google doc is never updated by 75% of users.

Andy, I understand, but the immitracker does not let me track BGC multiple changes. So I thought it makes sense to follow the excel tracker. Didnt know it was rarely updated.

Sure mate!

what do you mean by multiple changes? I can add this functionality i think and it might be already there.

do you mean like dates of changes from Not Started > Not Needed > In Process etc?

Yes, like in my case - NN > NS and Back to NN.

What is the significance of BG changing to the following status:
1) Not needed (first time) --> This is default state. Means default BG check not touched?
2) Not Started (first time) --> Does this mean that the application has been transferred to LVO?
3) In Progress (first time) --> At the initial stage, does this mean that security, criminality, and other external agency checks are in progress? If profile is not complex, with lot of travel history, or work history was not with government or security agencies, expect something positive around 30 days time frame. Right?

What does NN, NS, and IP actually mean in BG status? Is it something like the above mentioned statements? I understand that what we can only make assumptions, but is there any pattern emerging on the basis of what we have already seen?

With all the collective wisdom, it should be easy to decipher these status codes. After all, behind scenes it is a piece of code which is doing the status changes.

My best guess in reverse order:

In Progress: File is with VO for sure and they have begun work on the BGC for the file.
Not Started: File has been dispatched to VO from Ottawa but is yet to be acknowledged by the VO personnel.
Not Needed: The workflow has not moved ahead, say after medicals

The flaw with the above model is twofold:

- Status of R10 and A11 checks are not directly map-able to the above status changes
- recursive status changes such as NN > NS and back to NN and others like this do not follow a logical order.

Furthermore someone pointed out to me that since my application is moving fast, it could be another VO for me despite me being in India. (Not NDVO that is).

Its interesting to unearth CIC's methods. Last, I feel pissed that their online status tracker doesnt work post AoR.

Dear Andy and viveks,
I'm the owner of the spreadsheet and skdubai helps me to maintain it. I know there would be some times that none of us could update the sheet and I hope you excuse me for the delays. However, I've seen the entries up to date whenever I came to made the changes after a day or two. Many thanks to skdubai for helping. ;)
