Hello!

I am writing this thread on behalf of my friend. She is 21 years old.

She is a permanent resident, landed as a child in October 2013, stayed for a month or so, then went back to her motherland. In September 2017 she came back to Canada and since then is present here, studying at the college. Her PR card will expiry in the end of December this year.
So basically, she does not meet the rule of being present in Canada as a pr resident for a certain amount of days (i forgot how many days required to maintain the status, 700 or so). That means nobody will extend her pr card due to this.
She is asking now what should she do? Just wait in Canada while she collects the certain amount of days and then apply to for a new pr card? What about her college? She is worried she will be denied to classes because she won't have valid pr card.

Thanks everyone for your advices.
Happy Thanks Giving :)

No requirement to have a PR card for anything other than travel. She should wait until she has the 730 days to meet RO before making any attempt to renew. In fact, wait 800+ days to be safe. She can continue her studies. He PR status does not expire, only the card expires.

Thank you very much for the response!:)
She says her lawyer advices her to apply to renew pr card now. I don’t understand why? What will happen if she listen to her lawyer and will apply now??

If she applies now she can expect IRCC to refuse the PR card renewal which would trigger the process to revoke her PR status.

Tell her to run from that lawyer as fast as she can. As already said, she needs to wait until she meets the RO before applying for a new card.
