Hey,

I was dumb enough to fly to New York City without realizing that my Canadian travel documents had expired last October, and now (understandably) I can't cross the border to go back. At the moment the consulate and Queen's University international office are closed, so I haven't been able to contact them for help. My passport would require a valid visa, or a study permit, for reentry.

I'm currently in Buffalo, having thought that I could file my study permit application at the point of entry/border control. Of course, this plan didn't quite flesh out. Would you happen to have any suggestions on what I should do until Monday (when the offices reopen)?

I know this is a ridiculous question but at this point I'm so utterly drained and stressed out that I just had to make a post. Thank you for any input.

Assume you are not from a visa exempt country. Is your study permit still valid? Your only option is to apply for a TRV. The issue is that it can take some time. Would not wait for Queens and apply ASAP on Monday.

What you need now is a study permit and TRV or just visa for re-entry. It is unfortunate it'll will take some time to process. I hope you've all the require documents to apply for TRV at your disposal. If yes, don't wait any longer.

Depending on your situation living wise it might be better to return to your home country and apply/wait from there, it could take months. Unclear exactly what is expired but consulates normally dont do much except tell you to apply online.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Happy to report that I actually was able to renew my permit at the border, and am now waiting on my friend to pick me up :) I’m so, so relieved right now.

I think we forgot you dont need a TRV if you only go to the US! Very lucky, did they give tou any problems to get a new SP?
