Expire PR card

Others can comment but maybe the Sweetgrass-Coutts crossing followed by a 300km drive to Calgary but ultimately depends on your start point to get to anyone to recommend a crossing.

Having an expired PR card makes no difference which border crossing as you will still be asked same questions by CBSA on residency whichever crossing you chose

Can i rent a car from US and cross the border in canada with landing document.?

Yes it would be no problem. Can also show your expired PR card and citizen invite so there should be no question from CBSA about your PR status.
