if main applicant will bring 6000 CAD and dependent will bring 6000 CAD upon landing , should we declare the fund during landing, as i know more than 10000 CAD during landing should be declared at CUSTOM N IMMIGRATION. Any help much appreciated.

as far as I heard they ask to declare more than 10 000 per each landing person. let's see what seniors have to say.

This question has been asked before, but I don't think we ever got a conclusive answer. The advice was, and I'd say still is, to declare the money regardless. There is nothing illegal about bringing in over $10,000 and you will not be harmed for declaring the money.

If they decide that you should have declared the money and you did not they will take it...

are there any restrictions on taking money out of Canada as a cash?

You have to report anything you are carrying over $10K on departure.

thank you for your reply, PMM. should I declare even if they do not ask? do I need to mention the purpose why I take money with me?

It's usually in the customs declaration going INTO a country where you declare that yuo are carrying $10,000 or more, not when you leave a country.

Wrong, maybe for other countries, but both the US and Canada, you have to declare it on exit. You may wish to read http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.html
For Suin, it is necessary to report voluntarily, if you don't it can and will be seized and you may have to pay a fine.

thank you for your reply again, PMM.

will I need to pay anything extra on taking the money with me out of Canada while declaring? should I explain the reason why I take this sum with me?

No, you just have to report it. If you have a large cash sum, CBSA is going to ask what you intention is.

Good catch, PMM> The last time I took cash more than $10K across the border was in 2003, so maybe the rules have changed since then?

The law says you must report to the nearest border agent. But I've never seen one in an airport. Is that right?

So, if a border agent is not in the airport, must one hunt up an office and go to report the day before. Is that correct?

CBSA (Canada Customs) has an office in each airport, a very large office. Same as land borders.

Hi PMM,

Even if the amount brought into Canada is not in cash (say Demand Draft, Travellers Cheque) do we need to declare?

Thanks for your help.

Yes any negotiable instruments of value exceeding amount greater than the limit should be declared.
