Wrong, maybe for other countries, but both the US and Canada, you have to declare it on exit. You may wish to read http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.htmltoby said:It's usually in the customs declaration going INTO a country where you declare that yuo are carrying $10,000 or more, not when you leave a country.
No, you just have to report it. If you have a large cash sum, CBSA is going to ask what you intention is.Suin said:thank you for your reply again, PMM.
will I need to pay anything extra on taking the money with me out of Canada while declaring? should I explain the reason why I take this sum with me?
CBSA (Canada Customs) has an office in each airport, a very large office. Same as land borders.toby said:Good catch, PMM> The last time I took cash more than $10K across the border was in 2003, so maybe the rules have changed since then?
The law says you must report to the nearest border agent. But I've never seen one in an airport. Is that right?
So, if a border agent is not in the airport, must one hunt up an office and go to report the day before. Is that correct?
Yes any negotiable instruments of value exceeding amount greater than the limit should be declared.ap8329 said:Hi PMM,
Even if the amount brought into Canada is not in cash (say Demand Draft, Travellers Cheque) do we need to declare?
Thanks for your help.
