Question:
A friend of mine became Permanent Resident two months ago and left Canada after the landing to his home country India .

His PR arrived to his Canadian address. He does not want his card to be mailed to him overseas as he is worried it might get lost .

In his passport he still has the Visitor Visa is valid and the officer didn’t cross it .
Only his immigrant Visa was crossed as it was one entry used .

1- Can my friend board from India by showing the airline his visitor visa ?

2- Will the CBSA officer allow him to enter Canada once they swipe his passport ? Would it show that he is PR and grant the entry ?

His mom will be waiting in the arrival area in case they request the physical PR card .

The trv in his passport has likely been cancelled and the counter agent at the airport will see that. He can try to use it, but he shouldn’t be surprised if he is refused boarding. If he doesn’t want to forward his PR card, he should apply for a PRTD. There won’t be any issues with CBSA if he identifies himself as a PR to the officer.

Guidelines are clear once a PR must apply for a PRTD if do not have a PR card. A lot of people have their card couriered to them outside of the country, not standard post, without any issues and worst case if gets lost just report it and apply for a new one when back not a big deal.

As above it is likely that without a PR card or PRTD he will be denied boarding regardless of what he has in his passport, it is the board/no board indication that the checkin agent sees that is the deciding factor..
