Hi everyone,

I need some advice for my 22-year-old brother. He’s a veterinarian in India with 1 year of experience and is preparing for his IELTS exam. He passed his first licensing exam but didn’t clear the second one. He also has a visitor visa for Canada.

We’re unsure whether he should come to Canada on his visitor visa and try to find a job here, or stay in India, get more experience, and apply for Express Entry to Canada later.

I’ve already applied for my PR so he can get my 15 points later.

Any advice would be really helpful!

Thanks!

Focus on Express Entry and get invited first. Learn French.

Have you had his degree assessed? If he has been working for a year at age 22 unless he finished secondary school early that seems quite young to graduate, be licensed and have a year of work experience.

He can’t apply for a WP from Canada. He should focus on working towards a path to licensing in Canada and look at various pathways that may be possible if a vet. If he gets licensed in Canada a WP may also be possible given there is a shortage of vets in Canada. Depending on what type of vet practice he is interested in he may also want to consider targeting/moving to smaller more rural provinces/areas where he may have a higher chance of being selected.
