Once again excellent information from seniors. explorer101 and Qorax
I would like to request to give us more information like
House or condo to rent?
How much would be the rent?
What about mobile connection, which one is the best?
Any idea about buying car etc
Which bank and what type of bank account?
What credit card?
Any one lucky enough to got mortgage?
Broadband?
Landline phone?
What area to live?
Kids scholing. etc etc etc etc

I am sure above are the normal things almost all landed immigrants going thourgh or went through, so why not drop us few lines and please share you experience.

What area to live?
For Toronto and GTA , any place where one can get bus ( TTC, Mississauga , Bramption Transit) easily, subway is nearby, prefer a place where all three or two services are available,, library is nearby, neighbourhood service is available nearby, mall is nearby, school is nearby etc etc and most important where one is having job or where one can get survival job.
.

Kids scholing. etc etc etc etc
>>> Most of schools are good,
Admission is based on age of child.
No books to carry.
Little/ No home work
admission is matter of right
no school dress
lots of activities in school
teachers are very nice
Dont talk too much about studies to teacher, she would get offended.

So how long does it take a newcomer on average to get lets say an IT job in the GTA?
What qualifications are needed? Do you need to have your diplomas formally recognized by a Canadian institution?

1. I know of guys who got their openings within 2 months... IT included... in the GTA.

2. Yes, accreditation of our foreign quals is a must. And some additional (Canadian) certifications helps.

Hi Qorax,

1) You said teachers have less opportunities than others. what about researchers? if i want to try for a research fellowship/jobs in social science (islamism and militancy research to be specific) in which i have experience, education and training?

2) what about going for a phd research in the Uni? will i have to finance myself or there are financial support for that?

3) and what about running a programme/business on 'healthy living' as a self-employed person. it's a fitness and healthy living programme i developed over the years out of my passion/interest. i am trained in australia and malaysia for that. also completed a certificate course in australia on healthy living. it is probably not a regulated profession in canada? how can i start it after arrival?

pls shed some light on the above issues.

thanks

1. check university websites
2. PHD is fully paid by the University, u'll get stipend as well for living and basic needs which is enough. Try to search: University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson (richer university - higher stipend)
3. For opening bsns u need to get license first, register yr bsns, find/prepare a place to rent, open bsns acct in a bank (20 mins), advertise it (word of mouth would work in the beginning before running yr bsns). The area is the key: 'women only' is good within the muslim population ;)

I WOULD DO #2 AND LATER #3

Good luck,
Chami
