Hello
I am sponsoring my husband from the US and he lives with me in Canada. We put in out application (with all medicals and backgrounds included) at the beginning of July 2014.

Today I (the sponsor) received an email:

"This is an automated message. Please DO NOT RESPOND to this message.

Dear #my full name#,

This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2014/07/04 on behalf of the following member(s):

#husband's full name#"

The current processing time is much longer than this. Is this simply a notice that they have received my application? Is it normal to get this email almost 9 months later? Is that a bad sign?

If they are just sending an email confirming receipt of the application, does my processing time start now or back in July?

Thanks!

Did you apply using the inland (inside of Canada) or outland (outside of Canada) process?

That's just the confirmation that they've received your application. They won't start looking at it for several months yet. Right now they are working on applications from October 2013. See:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/times/perm-fc.asp

You still have quite a while to wait. It's a shame you didn't apply outland - you could very well be done by now.

hi mishikall,

inland application takes longer to process vs outland.... see link below.

Spouse In Canada Application

There were concerns about him being able to remain in country with me and as his status was expired, only inland allowed him to stay while we waited.

When does the processing time start counting, when they received the application, or when they sent me notice that they received it?

Since Inland applications take so long, they send an AOR (acknowledgement of receipt). It just means they have received your application. Your processing time would start back when they physically received your application.

we applied also in June 2014 and got our AOR in July 2014. I got my OWP in January 2015 and then at the end of Feb 2015 my wife, who is sponsoring me, got the exact same email you just received

on the new letter however, the UCI number was on it, and we can now log into ECAS using my wifes (the sponsors) details

The numbers were on it, I omitted them. I tried to log in and it did not work. I will call and ask about that part.

Thanks for all the replies. The email had me worrying that his processing time had just started now.

Why u.s applicants apply inland and wait over 2 years for PR is mind boggling... At that rate if u applied Outland you most definitely would be a PR and reap the benefits of a Canadian and working.

CIC just implemented new rules to allow those applying inland to get a work permit at the start. This was not the case when we applied, but he get his after AIP.

I suspect most who apply inland are like us, already living in Canada and not wanting the risk of having to leave.
