EE starts with a background check.. is it normal?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I applied for EE -- CEC Inland at the end of July, with a Canadian Bachelor's degree and Canadian work experience with a reputable employer (a research subsidiary related to the federal government). It has been more than 2 months since I received my AOR, and there has been no update on my online account. Medical has not even passed...

So I got worried and called CIC, and the agent has checked my application and said somehow the officer receiving my application decided to start with going through a "background check" first. Currently, it shows background check in progress, and no medical check request has been submitted.

I understand EE application usually starts with a medical update, and two months have passed since AOR so I started to get worried. Has anyone encountered a similar situation before? Is it normal and any suggestions on what I should do?

Nothing to worry about as no one outside of IRCC knows how they operate internally and there isn't any published guide into how they conduct their operations. As long as your documents are solid and you were truthful about everything, you should not worry at all and getting your PR status would be just a matter of time
