I think we are going to try to apply for a TRV for a trip to Canada in August.
We've submitted an outland PR application. My SO and I live in Mexico.

The purpose of the trip will be my brother's wedding which we have an invitation for and will include.

What other documents would you include or what type of letter to immigration should I include to convince them we really will only be staying for 2 weeks and coming back.

I'm thinking we could include these documents: Invitation to wedding, Return flight tickets, 2 Property Papers, Bank Statements, Letter from employer stating there is time off, My Permanent residency cards from Mexico including a recent renewal (June.2012), copy of PR Receipt...
Anything else I'm missing?
I'm not sure what to say in a letter to them to sound convincing... Can someone with experience in successfully getting a TRV in this instance provide some insight?

Thanks

Looks like a good list. Good thing you just renewed your FM-x - emphasize that in the letter.
Out of curiosity - what's the purpose of sending them the PR receipt?

I would also include a letter from your brother explaining the importance of having you BOTH there and that he knows you'll just be there temporarily. Beyond the employment letter, can you get letters from friends also saying they expect you back. What about a home lease, perhaps?

It's a double edged sword, but this Bulletin on dual intent may be helpful for you to refer to in your cover letter.

Good luck!

Thanks too much for replying! Unfortunately we don't have a home lease :( We own our home but we only have property papers there is no house certificate type thing and no mortgage as it's paid.
I was thinking of including the PR receipt as i wasn't sure how much info they had on our application as we just filed last month so I haven't been approved yet as a sponsor.

Ownership is great too! Submit a copy of the property papers, utilities, and predial. I would also a take a copy of these when you travel to Canada - it's pretty strong ties (since most people would sell before moving).

Got it. Not sure that's it's relevant for the TRV...

Reading this, I wonder, is there a potential conflict between proving that one will leave Canada because of the ties in the foreign country, vs the fact that as a sponsor living outside, one must show that they will actually go back to Canada once the PR application is approved? Or they are totally unrelated?

There is definitely a conflict but it is possible to obtain a TRV when you have a PR application in process. It's next to impossible but some people have received them so we are going to give it a shot. Not holding my breath but it would be nice to have my SO there at my brother's wedding.

However i do believe the PR and TRV are unrelated

I'm also very interested in this, because we are also gonna try and give it a shot for my husband's TRV.
Best of luck to you for both the TRV and a smooth PR process. :)

BCGirl, I'll keep you posted! We are going to apply the beginning of July so won't know until about the 3rd week of July or so what happens.
Have you guys tried for a TRV before? I notice in your timeline it shows you did the med in Dec but didn't send ur app til May... is that an error or possibly we are close in time :D Ours was received May.9th!
Goodluck to you and your husband as well!

Great, thanks! :)
Yes, he applied for xmas, and didn't get the TRV. Something about not enough evidence that he'll go back. From what I saw later on this forum, it seems to be the most common reason.

Unfortunately, the timeline has no error! It took us longer that planned to put the application together. Especially the police clearances, and then putting all the relationship evidence together really took 3 months. I was visiting him for a couple of months, so we decided to hold on and submit it when I come back home. So, yeah, our timelines are close :)

I remember reading somewhere that there might be a better chance for TRV if the sponsor is approved. I'm not really sure though. Your reason for asking for a TRV seems like a really good one. For us, however, it just him coming to visiting me, which is obviously not a very good reason as far as CIC is concerned! Oh well, we will try again :)
