This particular subject has thus far illuded me. Can i drive in canada on my uk license? (specifically alberta/British Colombia as thats where ill be) If so, is it indefinate or is it just for a few months..?

The DMV here have been vague in their responses so not sure on an answer, and my dad who is a driving instructer has no idea and cant seem to find the info either lol

Also, i have to book a flight for april 24th for my cousin in laws wedding. I plan on sending off my application about feb 12th and am well aware that unless some miricle occurs i will no way have a visa by that point, BUT do i have to come back? Or can i stay in Canada and just change the visa application addresses to canada somehow?

Well I am sure it may be different from province but let me look it up right quick.
*goes to googling*

If you are a visitor in Alberta, you may drive for up to 12 months on a valid driver's licence that was issued outside of Canada.

This site might help too.http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/living/driverslicensesandlaws.html

Here is a site that answer's your question for driving in BC.
http://www.welcomebc.ca/en/immigration/settle/documents/license.html

Hope that helps answer you question. :)

I can tell you for BC:
http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/moving-bc/licence-othercountry#Variables._frag_

You can drive with your UK license for 90 days, by then you should get the BC license. You have to take the knowledge test and then the driving test. If you pass, you should get the full license. If not, you get a learner's license and and they keep your UK license until you pass.

You can stay in Canada while they finish processing the visa. Notify them of the change of your mailing address (the residential address should remain in the UK). When they're ready to issue the visa, you'll have to either go to the UK to submit your passport or you can mail it from Canada and they will mail it back to you once the visa is issued.
