Hello,
does anyone know if a person who is on TRV in Canada can apply for driving license courses in Canada?
thank you

I am sure some driving schools allow it. Some may require you to get a learners license first. In some provinces, you can't get a learners license unless you are resident there so you might not be able to get a learners with a TRV. Even if you did, because of the graduated drivers licensing, a TRV of 6 months is not enough time to go from learners to the first probational license. Usually it takes a year, in some provinces with a driving course, 8 months. If the person who is doing this got their visit visa extended or came for another visit later, they might be able to do it.

thank you a lot for your reply Leon. Now the situation is much more clear.

Could you please tell me whether Ontario is amongst those provinces where someone can't get a learners license unless he/she is resident?
thank you

You can find Ontario drivers licensing at http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/index.shtml and I can't see any mention of it there. If you go here: http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/HowToApply.aspx it looks like you just need a passport.

There is a list of approved driving schools at http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/gradu/approve.shtml and you can also contact them directly and ask for their prices and ask if they will take a TRV student.

thank you for your answer a lot, Leon

it's allow for a visitor to take G1 written test at Ontario, I just took mine a month ago. Yes, it will take you 8 - 12 months to go for the first Road test. so make sure u have extend your stay or come again to take the test to get the G2 license. More details can be find from the website which Leon provide. Hope it help u out!

What if one already has a driver's license from the country of origin? Would it still take 8-12 months to get the G2 license?

No, if you have a foreign license, you go through a different process. It's explained here: http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/OutOfCountryDrivers.aspx
