Hi everyone! I need some advice, preferably from some senior members. I posted last week that I sent my passport to Ottawa, and Canada Post has no idea whether they delivered it. The story goes as follows:

I applied for PR, file was in VO Vienna, pretty straightforward. I received an e-mail on November 19 to send my passport in within 30 days from e-mail. Since I am currently in Canada, e-mail said to notify VO Vienna and send my passport to Ottawa. It took a few weeks for Vienna to change my address to Canadian one (my mistake) and to confirm my visitor status in Canada, and they told me I am good to send passport to Ottawa. I did so on December 3, using recommended Canada post Xpresspost option (a HUGE mistake).

Canada post never had my tracking number in the system, and as of today they still can't confirm if my passport is delivered or lost. I have sent an e-mail to Ottawa on December 10 to ask if they have it, but as expected they still didn't reply.

My ECAS shows "In process" since November 20 (we started processing on November 18).

Since in 3 days it will be 30 days since I got PPR request, what do you recommend me to do now? Should I notify Vienna? The problem is that we have no idea is my passport lost, or delivered and just waiting in some queue. The e-mail did say they will ship it back within 7 days from receiving it, but the return track number didn't appear yet in the system (nor I trust Canada post anymore).

contact the sponsor's MP, and ask them to inquire for you. have you sent a case specific inquiry from the CIC website?

I am saving the MP thing for last, expecially because my husband has no idea who his MP is.

I didn't sent case-specific inquiry, since my file is in Vienna, but they told me to send PP to Ottawa.

You think I should send a case-specific inquiry to Vienna first, and then if they don't respond contact MP?

i would think it's worth a shot. the last thing you want to happen is for your clock to run out and not have tried every avenue possible, right? just be specific about where the pp was sent and see if they can inquire for you.

Exactly! I don't even know what will happen if the time runs out, that's why I am starting to panic. Thanks for your help, I will send an e-mail to Vienna, and if nothing works, contact MP within this 3 days.

That's insane and scary!
I hope you can figure that out as soon as possible.
Sorry to jump into your thread but how did they allow you to send you passport to Ottawa? is it a new thing and can it happen to anyone who's currently visiting their sponsor?
Again, hope you can get that done as soon as possible!

Good luck!

You are not jumping in, there isn't much anyone can advise anyways. It's more me letting it out, it is really scary. Although I am still hoping my PP is just in Ottawa waiting.

The e-mail I received stated that if I am currently in Canada and planning to stay the next 3 months (probably because of PR card receive), I should notify Vienna and then I may send my passport to Ottawa. As I understand, more people had the same thing, and this is just optional, you can still send it to your VO. I though it would be faster if I send it to Ottawa (made more sense back then), so that they can return it to me in Canada.

Problem isn't with Ottawa, but with Canada post. I strongly recommend using courier wherever they give that option.

Thank you =D
Apparently you're not the only one having issues with Canada Post. They aren't very organized.
When I sent in my application, it took them 7 days to update that they had delivered my application. I was freaking out in anger.
I still have a long time to wait until I read those kind of email.

You are welcome. I know NOW Canada post wasn't the smart option, but the e-mail said it was recommended.

Good luck with your wait, I hope you will hear from them soon and remember my case when you are about to send in your PP :)

So sorry to hear that you're still having problems. I hope everything gets worked out for you soon and you get your COPR soon.

Thank you so much. I will make sure to post what happens, this is so frustrating. I really hope other people will learn from my mistake...

I haven't read all the recommendations... but I can tell you something for sure...
now is the last thing... if you don't move fast you are not going anybody to answer for you
in this case...
You probably will need to get a new passport from your embassy...
and this time send it together with the e-mail requesting it.... and all other details so it does not get lost again...
Ottawa office handle so many cases.. that if you don't send an e mail as reference as what the case is about
they are just going to put the document on hold and nobody will take care of it....

Talk to your MP and then he will contact the necessary people to get you an extension to send a new passport....

Even when at this point you should not need to send a passport since you are already here and just need
the confirmation of permanent residence... but if they are asking for the passport...

Oh, I did include the e-mail I received from Vienna, and a cover letter explaining everything, and photos and confirmation of height and eye color. Everything they asked for (and more). The e-mail has my file number in the subject line, so that should not be it.

I cannot apply for a new passport until I have a confirmation my current one is lost. And Canada post won't say it's lost, they put a "trace" on it, because it may be that it was delivered to Ottawa. But nobody knows. Trust me, I have trying to find out since the day after mailing it, because I had a bad feeling as soon as the track number didn't appear in the system.

They are asking for my passport because I am not from a visa exempt country, so they need to put an immigration visa into my pp.

I sent an e-mail to Vienna a few hours ago, it's 6 am there now, so hopefully they will see it by the time I wake up :D I will probably have my husband contact his MP tomorrow, so we will see. Thanks anyways!
