Does the Check Status Page on CIC Website, actually update anything?

PR app was sent 12 Jan, signed for 15 Jan. I received sponsor approval 25 Feb and they said his application was being sent to New Delhi. The only things listed on the status page are:

1.We received null XXXXX's application for permanent residence on January 15, 2016.
2.We started processing null XXXXX's application on March 21, 2016.
3.Medical results have been received.

So nothing has been updated since 21 March. Will it stay like this until its approved now? Or are there other steps along the way that I should see on this page?

Also, second question, I received the sponsor approval 25 Feb and under my sponsor application it still shows "in process" since 3rd week in Feb and nothing else. (It doesn't reflect the mail I received saying I was approved as a sponsor).

So in short I am worried our application was stalled or they lost it or something since nothing has been updated in over 2 months on either the sponsor side or applicant side.

Is this normal?

The whole process(background check, security and eligibility) takes more than 2 months as you are worried, it can even take 2 years without any additional update on Ecas
Your application is not lost because it is in process. The good way to check more updates is GCMS but your application is still new they might be no updates yet but order it if you want. We were supposed to see the details through online application in May but it was pushed to July 2016. Again order GCMS to see the progress otherwise keep your fingers crossed and pray more ;D

You're worrying for no reason - what you're seeing is normal. ECAS is notoriously unrealiable.

My husband's ECAS still showed "in progress" for well over a month after he had been approved for PR and landed in Canada.

Hmmm so logging on once a week (it says updated Tuesdays) is probably not a good ides then LOL.

Okay that allays one fear, but two years????????? It's saying 17 months estimate, and I know personally two people here in Nova Scotia their spouse were approved and here on PR in 6 months for one and 9 months for the other. That and, liberal government promised to put extra people to work on the backlog! I don't want to have to go 2 years without seeing my husband! (save for a few weeks once a year when I am on leave). That's really difficult on a marriage! Do you know anyone personally who actually took 2 years for their spouse PR?

Sure - unfortunately there are enough people here (on this forum) for whom sponsorship took more than two years. The visa office the application is being processed through really has a lot to do with this (obviously the application influences this as well). For example, Singapore has quite long processing times. I think you're going through ND - so your processing times should be nowhere near 2 years.
